NCAA Selection Show Now 2 Hours

The NCAA selection show that was once 30 minutes will now be two hours. CBS will televise this with a panel of "experts" to go over it all from 5:30 to 7:30 March 13th. Also of note TBS will be televising the Final Four and Finals this year. The first time the Finals have been solely on cable TV.

The official NCAA Tournament selection show will get an expansion. This year’s show which has aired on CBS dating back to 1982 first as a half-hour program hosted by Brent Musburger, now will air for two hours starting at 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 13 and running until 7:30. Thank God. The only thing missing from my life is an extra hour of the living, breathing Chappelle's Show character known as Greg Gumbel.

He's not the worst of it. Doug Gottleib and the NBA guys are useless. Seth Davis isn't much above that. I would rather watch ESPN's version. They have Bilas and Frischilla who really know their stuff. Still don't mind Vitale on this platform and even Greenberg can be pretty good. After the initial showing of the pairings on CBS I'll probably turnover to ESPN.

This makes sense. ESPN, who doesn't have the broadcasting rights to the games, dedicates a couple hours to the selection show on ESPN, plus countless hours on the other ESPN networks.

I don't watch the ESPN brackets for the most part. There is something about Joe Lunardi that rubs me the wrong way. I feel he has way too much influence on the selection committee. Of course they will never admit that, but he has to. He is sort of a Cliff's Notes, imo. BTW, I hate everything that ESPN stands for. It once was great.

I've always preferred the CBS coverage initially, and then I usually switch to ESPN. Regardless, I enjoy the bracket release evening. It feels almost like a holiday.

It was a painfully awkward show. The interminable time between each region was frustrating, and the chemistry between the hosts was nonexistent.

The leaked bracket didn't do CBS any favors.

Should go back to one hour next year. Just give us the teams, interview the commissioner for 4 minutes, then send it to 60 Minutes.

^Thankfully I didn't watch it. We had to go out and do some shopping. I will be erasing it off my DVR tonight. I agree one hour is plenty. Should only take about 20 minutes or so to reveal the brackets, then do a few interviews and be done with it.

They are getting full of themselves. Just like the selection "committee".

The leaked bracket will ensure that the NCAA and CBS never try this nonsense again in the future.

And thank God for that. I was watching it on my phone on the ride back from Nashville and, my God, it was painful.

They could have alleviated part of the problem by keeping the original format the same and using the next hour for the crap they used in between the region releases.

The flow was terrible. Just a bad show.
