Notre Dame did have Zach Auguste. And the first UCONN team had Alex Oriakhi. So that provided some inside/outside balance. When Kentucky has gone bad this year has been when there's way too much weight for the backcourt to carry.

One reason we were so good yesterday was Marcus Lee. (And of course Willis.*) We got Good Lee,a nd that made a tremendous difference. But as we all know Lee is more inconsistent than Poythress because he's so unskilled. Going to need some help against better teams.

    * I've never seen a guy change a UK team like Willis. Thought he played great again yesterday just because he's a threat out there, and that's made all the difference.

But we need everybody on deck and playing well to make a run. Poythress needs to be part of it.

Agreed that we are better with Poythress. Cal forgets about the Hump (my new name for him) when Alex is there. I think the way he has play (even as up and down as it is) has earned him time right now. Maybe not against all teams but when the match up is there.

Cats need Poythress BADLY. Without him we have no one who can guard an athletic 3-4 with size (Brandon Ingram, Ben Simmons, etc)

It's crossed my mind that Cal could've been on edge Saturday because of the Poythress news.

If he is indeed finished, what a disappointing, unfortunate playing career...

...but he's one of the more talented off-the-court guys UK has had. So he'll be fine if he doesn't have a professional basketball career.

That's good news. Maybe he will be back late next week. Maybe by the Vandy game?

Good news. Let's hope for no more set backs for Alex (and anyone else)....

This team is on a roll....

Reminds me of 1998 actually in some ways

Cal just said in the Tennessee press conference that Poythress will probably not play this week but he has "started to do some stuff."

Cal said today that Poythress worked out yesterday. KSR says that they've heard he could be back tomorrow night.

They will need him with Willis being out. Poythress can't replace Willis shot but he could on rebounding and just general athleticism.

If true, that would be great news, indeed.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm much more concerned about Willis than Poythress. That's not to say that I think Willis' injury is season-ending, just that he's a much more integral part of the team.

If we had to do without one, I'd definitely want Willis over Poythress.
