Kentucky Opens as 1-point Favorite Against South Carolina

Will be a super-tough, grinding, probably ugly game. Key will be keeping South Carolina off the glass. They lead the conference in rebounding and have a few guys who will relentlessly attack misses.

After the Tennessee meltdown I didn't think we'd have a shot in this one. But the way we've played in the last couple--and really for the better part of the last month--tells me that we should at least be in it at the end with a shot.

South Carolina is a veteran team. IIRC, They play 3 seniors and 3 juniors the bulk of the minutes. Carrera has been a UK killer in the past and he may do it again tomorrow. Also the two Lithuanians play off each other very well. UK and the conference needs this game very much. The USC schedule is very weak after this game. The only two games they have a possibility of losing would be against Florida and at Arkansas. Neither would be likely losses. So this is a huge game that could decide the conference in the end. UK can't get rattled when USC gets on a run. They have to withstand it and just keep playing as Cal always preaches. You take away just a couple of bad stretches against Auburn and Tennessee and UK has been playing very well the last month. For whatever reason I get a good feeling about this game It won't be easy but I think UK will pull out about a 3 point win.

The game is at high noon tomorrow and is on ESPN. I haven't see who the announcers are yet but I would expect Nessler and his gang to be doing it.

Pretty sure I heard ESPN say last night that Kara Lawson is one of the announcers. Thats not a bad thing as I think she does a good job.

Being favored by any amount will only add fuel for the SC Coaches to throw into the fire. They will be UP for this game and our Cats will have to stay focused and play intense for 40 minutes.

Interesting comment from Cal just now in the pregame press conference.

Says that they're starting to change their offense every game. I've noticed a lot of different looks, particularly with the way they use Murray. It's another advantage of having a genius as a point guard: you can do a lot of different things game-to-game and make it difficult for teams to scheme against you.

Yep I would rather hear her than just any other male analyst not named Jay Bilas.

Will mentioned the rebounding by South Carolina. They are out rebounding their opponents by 9 a game. That's a huge margin and has to one of the best in the nation. UK has to neutralize that in some way to have a chance in this game.

In Cal's presser he said Murray didn't practice yesterday. He had bumped knees with someone. I think it happened in the Georgia game. He expected him to practice today and play tomorrow. Lets pray he does or UK has no shot.

I didn't know that. If he doesn't play, I'll have to revise my prediction.

I remember in the 2nd half Murray went out for a couple of minutes after getting hit in the lower leg. He seem to come back in fine.

Gonna be a tough game. It took some time for Martin to instill the program with the same tough juice that he drinks, but they are finally drinking it. We need to establish a low post presence right off the bat and have our guards to continue what they have been doing. The season so far has been a sort of addition by subtraction but this team needs more. We aren't a good road team but if the guys play the way they have the last few games we will be just fine. It will be a close, tough, foul infested game and the Cats will just squeak by.
