Great article about the difference between last year and what we've seen so far this season.

Last years team was very plodding and not fun to watch many times. They basically hit you with body blows until you were finally just worn out at the end. This years team is all about finesse and using their speed and basketball skills to their advantage. This years team could go down as the most fun to watch of Cal's era. If it ends in a championship it almost certainly will.Kentucky fan since 1971.👍 1 -
Last night was a fascinating example of why guardplay is so far more dangerous than frontcourt play in the college game.
You obviously need frontcourt play. Duke's ability last year to put the ball in there with Okafor was a major reason they won. You need that balance.
But your guards need to be what carries you. Duke feasted inside. They got 16 and 15 from Amille Jefferson and a career game from Plumlee and really never had a shot to win.
Guards rule this game. You can have big men feast and not be able to pull away from teams, but if your guards play better than the other team's guards you're going to win almost every time.Comment

Will, I agree with your comments regarding how important guard play is, and we sure have three of the best. Skal is what he is....great player, but he's gonna get pushed around a lot. With Humphries showing lots of promise, I also believe we have a fairly deep and effective presence inside with Poythress and Willis coming off the bench too. I've been able to watch the first three games and the Cats are definitely fun to watch. They're gonna destroy some really good teams.Comment

We haven't really seen a guard oriented team since Cals been here. Man they sure were fun to watch last night. Some teams would kill to have just one guy who can take the opponent off thre dribble and we have three. Cals Memphis teams were fun to watch and this team mirrors those. But Memphis never had a guy like Skal. Sure he looked lost and slow right now but so did Davis the first few games. I'm not saying Skal will be Davis, but when he figures it out this team is gonna explode.Isaiah 5:20Comment

2011 was, but oddly it didn't come around until that frontcourt balance kicked in and Jorts turned into a scoring threat.
You have to have the threat of low post play but it doesn't need to be the focus of the team. Kemba Walker and Shabazz Napier on line one..Comment

Love the style of play this team is bringing with the 3 guard lineup. Hard to say i would pick this team over teams with Wall/Cousins, Davis/Mkg, or others but at the same time, this is 1990's style Kentucky basketball all over again.....Comment

I'm impressed with this team thus far - moreso than I have been, save for the Davis team. The guard play is much more fluid and Ulis is the primary reason. I feel like that if one aspect of the game gets shut down, they can more readily adjust. I'd rather have a great back court and a serviceable front court than the other way around.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.
