        Yes, he did. But, it wasn't really Cal's fault.

        As the story goes, L.A. wanted Kobe and Kobe wanted L.A., so Vaccaro, representing Adidas at this point, faked a rumor saying Kobe would go back to Italy if he were drafted by the New Jersey Nets at No. 8.

        “Just like we wanted,” Gary Charles, a former Adidas consultant, added. “The story was really like 99 and a half percent bullsh**.”

        Vacarro and Charles pretended to be happy for Kittles, knowing Kobe would fall to Charlotte and a deal with the Lakers was already in the works.
