The interim coach Boynton was the head coach at Oklahoma State for 7 years .He coached Brandon Garrison before he came to Kentucky.

There is a recurring conspiracy theory circulating around here (Eville) regarding the recent coaching move. The local buzz suggests that taking the Mavericks Head Coach position is actually a strategic stepping stone toward becoming the next Head Coach at IU. The logic being shared is that transitioning to Indiana University might be smoother after a stint in the NBA rather than making a direct jump from Michigan. For Indiana fans...Dusty May is the new Brad Stevens. Seems far fetched, but then again.

Yeah.... that's a little far fetched. Just a tad.

I guess Rick Pitino didn't really want the Celtics job back in the day....he was secretly looking for a way to become Louisville's head coach.

Seriously....this "theory" circulating about Dusty May sounds like they took the Pitino situation leaving UK for the Celtics and eventually returning to college at UofL and have made it the modern day excuse for why Dusty took a pro job with the Mavericks.

That would be another nearly 40% from 3 shooter. He would likely be our second best player.

Probably the best fit of the players off Michigan’s roster.
McKinney of Michigan has already shut down the rumors. He is staying at Michigan (at least as of June 23rd). If others leave he may jump ship who knows at this point.

Why couldn't this have been the year that Yaxel Lendeborg had transferred to Michigan....

Seriously..... could you imagine him at the 4, Moreno at the 5 and Milan at the 3....to go along with Zoom and Wilkins in the backcourt??? Man....

                    To be honest....

I don't think Dusty May's pro career is off to the best start. How in the world do you pass over Brayden Burries and Yaxel Lendeborg for Morez Johnson???

I know the guy can coach, but player evaluation and personnel decisions may not be his strong suit.

EDIT: He redeemed himself nicely by taking Peat at the end of the first round (and then traded him...D'OH!)

If things go well for May in the NBA he’ll probably stay there. But he is from Bloomington’s back yard. It’s conceivable he’d rather be at IU than Michigan. And as proven in college football…IU has donors.

I could see May being like Donovan in the NBA. Probably never one of the top coaches, but good enough to stick around for awhile.

IU screwed up when they hung on to Mike Woodson 1 year too long. IMO, if they fire him after 2023-24 season (when he didn't make the tournament in his 3rd season), Dusty May goes to IU instead of Michigan.

Probably. But—it never bothers me for IU to screw up.

They also screwed up giving Mike Davis the interim job years ago. He lucked up and made the title game in year 1 and then they were stuck with him way longer then he deserved.
