Oh yeah. It's absolutely pathetic. Really makes some (many?) in our fan base look completely intolerant towards any religious beliefs, and especially those who are Mormon.

I don’t see any hate there. Most seem to really like Pope but just know he’s not right for UK.

Maybe if someone thinks that Pope is the right man for the job then maybe they see hate?

I guess we must be viewing different threads, because I don't think all the comments about him being "weird" and all the memes mocking him are being "done out of love".

I am not the type to bring something up if people are expressing displeasure and are unhappy with the current results....but I commented that the comments there are very personal in nature, and they are. I suggest going back and digging a little deeper if you disagree, it shouldn't be all that difficult or take all that long to see what I'm talking about.

Understand your point but if it is all on coaching then they would not have Pope in their homes, would not come to Lex at all. It has something to do with it but we are getting good word on guys over and over and then see the bottom fall out. We hear the rumors of UK is offering more, so it is not the pay. It ends up being the JMI deal takes control from the player and their NIL deal or they sign that they will do their own thing and get none of the JMI money. I think that is where we see the bottom fall out.

It's Pope imo. He's just an odd guy. All of his wonderful's, beautiful's and talking about the name on the front of the jersey. He's trying to sell something these kids don't give a rats ass about. He's trying to sell a passionate fanbase, tradition dating back to the 40's, etc. He's got NOBODY worth anything in the NBA after 11 years coaching.

These kids are coming to campus because we are known to have a large budget. A majority of them are walking away after spending a decent amount of time with Pope because they can't picture playing for him. That's my take on all of this.

Pope is an odd person. He does talk about the name on the front of the jersey, but so does a ton of other coaches. My guess is (like you say) he just is not coming off genuine with the talk. Or he is letting the inmates run the jail in the locker room. He has 1 year left in me to get things moving along. I do not know if it takes a final four but he needs to have a team that plays like a team for 40 minutes for 40 plus games (if they make it that far).

I've been impressed with this board and how civil people are, even when disagreeing. I just wish it had more traffic.
