Are the refs allowing a LOT more contact in the tournament?

I didn't watch much CBB during the season, but I've tuned in during a few games thus far in the tournament and it appears to me that the refs are allowing a whole lot more hand checking, body bumping, pushing, etc. during the tournament games. While that allows the players to play more, I think that's a bad decision by the NCAA. These teams have all played <30 games with their games called one way and, now, in the tournament they are being called a much different way. I'm guessing for some teams that are more finesse, the lack of whistles was a pretty big disadvantage when playing teams that play more physical. I saw at least a half dozen collisions every game that I thought would be a foul (and would have been called in the regular season) that the refs just let 'em play. And there is a lot of hand checking, dribblers swatting defender hands, offensive players hooking with their elbow, etc. - all of which were called during the season.

I've also seen a BUNCH of players take 2+ steps without dribbling that hasn't been called but I don't recall if that's similar to the regular season or not.

Just odd that tournament refs have obviously been told to overlook situations in the tournament games that were certainly called during the regular season games that I watched. Changes the game and strategy significantly, imo.

I just wish we could get some consistency in the sport. Figure out how you want the game to be called and hold your refs to that. This changing game to game isn't fun.

I wish they'd go back to calling everything really tight. No extra steps, no palming, call charges, offense can't push off, no moving on screens, etc. You know, the actual rules.

Taking extra steps has become very noticeable in the games.

Yeah, the lack of traveling calls is very obvious. I believe the NBA finally went to 2 full steps are allowed but I don't believe that's the case in college. Some of the no-calls have just been ridiculous. Player takes two steps, gets fouled, takes another step and shoots and the refs count the shot. Just let them put the ball under their arm and sprint down the court like the pros.

I honestly don't know what constitutes walking any longer. I watched a Purdue kid literally dribble the ball twice , stop and then take 2 steps and start dribbling again and nothing was called.

Referees allow or disallow various rules infractions in order to affect someone's eventual desired outcome.
Crusher of eggshells... apparently. I dunno.

Back to Hurley's bs. If any other coach touches a ref they are T'd up thrown out suspended, not Hurley. Question, are the refs on the PAYROLL for UCONN??

^ I don't know maybe the refs have become immune to Hurley, but by no means does it make it right. A story that details what happened between Roger Ayers and Hurley.

Reading that article, it was all "Dan this, and Dan that". Sounded way too chummy. Have Dan Hurley and UCONN passed Duke as the college basketball darlings that will get all the calls and favoritism and be heralded as the greatest thing since sliced bread? It's kinda sounding like it.

When it gets as bad as the NBA, I will just give up on College Profession Basketball League (CPBL) not NCAA any longer.

^It's close. The NBA is a complete joke. They might as well state that dribbling is optional. Also, when was the last 'carrying' infraction called in the league - 1978? Everyone bounces the ball, catches it underneath, turns the ball over to bounce it again. And, it's never, ever called.

UConn bb has been an ESPN creation all along and the rules enforcement and officiating have been biased in aiding their success since the late 80's.

I have been an official for 50 years. Tge rules or lack there of in today’s game have ruined the game. There is no walking, palming , three seconds or illegal screens anymore. The college game is a shell of its former self. I rarely watch anymore and can’t say I miss it. NCAA sucks.
