Kansas and North Carolina Coaching Jobs both Open at the Same Time

It will be real interesting to see how this shakes out.

If Donovan doesn't sign on at one of them, then he was likely never coming back to college. You know at least one of those schools will go after him and probably both. You could probably say the same of Jay Wright. But I don't think he has interest in coaching anymore.

***Edit - Might have jumped the gun on Kansas. I saw something that looked legitimate and indicated that Kansas job was now open. It might not have been true.

Self will not officially say if he will retire or not.

Every school seems to have the same wish list for luring guys back to college coaching- Donovan, Stevens, Wright, Pearl. Then you have current coaches like Golden, Oats, Lloyd, May. Every single one of those guys are in a good position, would they want to jump into the heater of a blue blood? I know fans think they can just pluck away any coach, but it will be interesting to follow; especially if both of them are competing for the same guys. All I know is some guys will be getting a very nice payday from their current schools to stay.

Bill Self has health issues I could easily see him retiring

Question though is if this is a good thing for us or bad. Obviously, Pope is staying at least one more year, but if all three of us were in the market, it would create a bidding war for the best out there, would it not? Are we best to let it shake out and see who's left for the new AD to hire next year? Wonder if the AD from Bama could persuade Oats to stay there one more year if he thinks he has a legitimate shot at the UK AD job.

Self just needs a PIT crew to glue on a new rug and get him back out there!

Seriously though- I hope his medical issues are under control, and wish him the best in his personal life.

On the court, I hope he loses every lousy game he coaches.

Why would Alabama's AD leave to come to Kentucky?

Because he's an ex-Barnhart guy. He'll be on the list.

His name has been mentioned as someone UK might look at for the position. He does have experience working in UK athletics, but could just all be speculation.

I get that but why would he leave Alabama to come here? Alabama has it pretty good, probably better than us.

Purely speculation, but there could be lots of reasons. Maybe he has family in Kentucky. Maybe he likes the landscape, people and climate better. And of course, the main reason most people change jobs.....$$$$$.

Real reason he might consider is the same reason Bill Curry left Bama for Kentucky....not sure he's overly loved by the fan base because of the Kalen DeBoer hire and a few things he's said to the fans. Now, that would lead to the question...why would UK want him if that's the case.
