I think the problem Pope is having is he thinks "the brand" (UK) will sell itself when truth is, these kids today want to play for THE COACH just as much if not more than for university! And Pope hasn't won titles and doesn't have a track record of developing pros. Yet, he's shooting for the moon and going for some big names (Freeman) over better fits (Rancik) because he's trying to prove that he can land the big fish!
I think he'd be better served going after the best second tier players that he can once the top dog doesn't bite immediately. I knew with Freeman that once UCONN and Bama were cancelled/off the table and yet Freeman STILL wanted to plan more visits that he wasn't coming to Kentucky. At that point Pope should have immediately contacted Rancik and said the PF spot is yours, and then went back and told Donnie "we're bringing in Rancik, you can still come if you'd like but we're not changing anything or prioritizing anything to accommodate you".👍 1Comment

Ashley Judd's burner account for all I know.
I just said it was interesting, never said I took it as gospel.Comment

Honestly, I thought there was a good chance Freeman was coming to Kentucky..... until UCONN and Bama cancelled/were off the table....AND HE IMMEDIATELY ADDED ST. JOHN'S AND (I THINK) LOUISVILLE!!! At that point Pope should have immediately made Rancik a priority and viewed Freeman as a "You can come if you want, but you're no longer a priority... we're done here" option.Comment

In Rondo's defense, I don't always document when and where I see, read, hear or watch things either. That's kind of why hearsay is not admissable in court... because the accuracy and veracity can not be challenged. That said, it doesn't mean that it doesn't have legs and isn't the truth either. It's just unaccounted for information that may or may not be factually accurate.👍 1Comment

Understood. It's just the utter ridiculous of saying that everyone in basketball knew Freeman wasn't going to be allowed to come to Kentucky. By "everyone" they must have meant none of the coaches, sportswriters, talking heads or anyone else. When it's that extreme fake negativity, I just want to make sure they don't get clicks from me.In Rondo's defense, I don't always document when and where I see, read, hear or watch things either. Yeah, I would just chalk that one up as hyperbole. It was definitely exaggerated for effect. I think there's very likely a large number of people who suspected or thought he wasn't coming to UK, but the number that actually knew he wasn't for a fact is probably limited to his inner circle.

So, what about extreme positivity? Up until a day or so ago people were saying Freeman is a lock. Wright was a lock unless UK royally screwed it up (you didn't like that wording). Are people who are now saying Stokes is seriously considering Oregon just spreading negativity?

It's a little of both, isn't it?👍 1Comment
