I am starting to think that really no real big named big time coach even wants to coach at Kentucky. The pressure, the fans, the expectations, following footsteps of Rick and Calipari, who knows? Maybe Coaches don't want to deal with the real people who run Kentucky basketball behind the scenes?,

Possible Pope is as good as it gets for now. Also very Possible maybe we should actually be Thankful he really wants to be here.

Does it help if we actually get behind him and support him good or bad and let him mold learn from his mistakes?

He may talk like Bill Walton but he's not a hippie stoner,he's a intelligent Doctor, he ain't dumb .

Team chaos injuries big money involved all of the above, maybe it was a perfect storm for disaster for any coach?

I’ll have to see UK, with a new AD, run an actual search for a coach (not just ask 3 people) before saying no one wants to coach UK. Saw some clips from last night and some of those teams didn’t have many fans. The allure of having a rabid fanbase that follows and supports you is still a draw for certain coaches. Until then, I’ll hope that Pope figures it out here.

You know, the more I think about it, the more this sentiment (and this isn't aimed at you at all, so please don't take it that way) that hoping Pope figures it out makes me mad. Why are we stuck with a coach, at the University of Kentucky, that doesn't already have it figured out?

I'm there as well....my difference is I really like Pope...I really want him to get it going.

Next year tells the tale for me....another season like this one.....changes must be made

I'm in your boat. I feel that way about guys like Pearl. I don't give a rats ass if he has skeletons in his closet, is not likeable, etc. The moment they win at your school...they are the greatest thing ever.

I'm in that boat. Rupp was no wallflower. Neither was Pitino. Heard assistant coaches tell how many times Pitino fired them and then later would tell they have a meeting at X time.

Rupp literally destroyed players at times with criticism. Heard Kevin Grevey tell how Hall lit him up for missing curfew.

I want a winner, I ain't interested in you playing chess with a player. Hurt some feelings. Break some egos. If you don't do it my way, the bench is your friend or the road

My feeling, for what it's worth, is this coach Pope is probably here for at least one more season. As long as he's our coach, I'll pull for him to be successful. At such time as we're in the market for a new coach I'll make out a wish list from who's available at that time.

He's 100% here for year 3. I hope he wins the SEC and goes to the Final Four next year. That's best case scenario for everyone in BBN. If he has a Sweet 16 or less, then it's time to look for a new coach. He still has 4 years remaining on his contract with a $16.5 million buyout, so no way they are doing that right now.

I get it. If I wake up tomorrow and see a headline of “UK parts ways with Pope” I wouldn’t be upset. But we know he’s back next season and I’d rather see it work out than not, but I have my doubts.

it came down to Mitch thinking his buddy Drew would come right on down (that wouldn’t have been a good hire either). When that didn’t work he went right to a guy who’d 100% say yes. I never bought the Hurley stuff. So here we are, which is why I very much hope UK goes in a different direction with the new AD.

Somewhat off topic but Billy Donovan was asked about his interest in the UNC opening and he didn't deny it.

Pope signed a 5 year deal and has been here 2 years, so how does he have 4 left? I'm under the impression that the "Sweet Sixteen guarantees another year" provision that Mitch inexplicably wrote into the contract meant that another year of the 5 year contract was guaranteed....not that it extended it by adding another year.

The Sweet 16 did provision did give him an extension. So he has 4 years left.

So how much will the buyout be next year if he reaches the Sweet Sixteen again but the new AD still wants to make a change

I guess he'd have 4 years left. His buyout is 75% of remaining contract value. Would be about the same as it is now, I would think. $16.5 million
