Felt that Kansas was always Strokes first choice and just waiting to be sure Self was coming back. Now that has been decided time to go on to whoever UK's backup plan for him was.

Yeah. I had a tiny bit of hope he'd come to UK, but this news probably puts a nail in it.

I like the hire of Williams. As for Pope I feel he doesn't have it any better or worse than any coach that has been here including Rupp. At UK you win and win big or you move on its ALWAYS been that way. Many old timers remember ALOT of UK fans wanted Rupp gone at the end because he wasn't winning big anymore. Joe B was under fire before the 76 season bigtime. Sutton I don't have to even get into that. Rick was the one anomaly because he left while a big winner. Tubby was pretty much under fire from season 3 on because he wasn't winning big, same with Cal at the end. Pope hasn't won big and his leash is now short. He grown and intelligent so he knew the deal when he came here. If he wants to stay here he needs to win BIG.

Appears to be a strong hire. Will be great to have a former NBA all star working with the PG's. Pretty good conference record at Jackson State a a head coach. Being at a HBCU has got to be brutal as the entire athletic department depends so much on you bringing in revenue from your OOC schedule getting your ass kicked every game. They played Illinois, UL, Auburn, Arkansas and Houston in their OOC this past year.

It would be $16.5 million after next year if he made a Sweet 16 again. I'm shocked (well, not really with Mitch doing the deal) that a Sweet 16 gets an automatic 1 year extension.

I guess he'd have 4 years left. His buyout is 75% of remaining contract value. Would be about the same as it is now, I would think. $16.5 million

I'm under the impression that the "Sweet Sixteen guarantees another year" provision that Mitch inexplicably wrote into the contract meant that another year of the 5 year contract was guaranteed....not that it extended it by adding another year.

If he has a Sweet 16 or less, then it's time to look for a new coach. He still has 4 years remaining on his contract with a $16.5 million buyout, so no way they are doing that right now.
