The problem dates back to 2023 when Mitch signed an amendment to his contract that has this option in it, including the pay ($800,000 base plus a $150,000 bonus thing). If the university decided to back out of this agreement, I imagine there would be a breach of contract lawsuit and Mitch would easily win.
The moist criminal thing in the final contract that Mitch signed in 2023 is the retention bonuses. They added $1.95 million in retention bonuses ($650,000/year that he would receive on June 30 2026, 2027 and 2028) - that is absolutely criminal. Not only is he getting $950,000 next year, but he will get a $650,000 bonus on June 30th 2026, so he's actually getting $1.6 million..🤢 1Comment

Regardless of anyone's feelings toward Barnhart, I am not sure how any can look at this deal and not raise their eyebrow.
