    Cats off till Saturday

Plenty of time to work on FREE THROWS and LAY-UPS. Missing those are probably costing them over 10 points a game

We have a bad defensive habit of trying to close late on 3 point shooters. If we do not fix that Floriday will eat us alive.

Luckily for us, 3 point shooting is their weakness. 28% as a team. Their starting guards have been terrible from 3 all year. Lee shoots 25% and Fland shoots 18%. Haugh is a respectable 35% as their 3 man. Their bigs are not shooters from 3.

The problem is, they rebound so well, it doesn’t matter.

I don’t know whether I’m right or not but several games the last 2 years I have felt the scouting report tells our staff the best thing we can do is back off and dare poor shooting teams to jack up 3’s. And a number of times those teams have scorched the nets. This leads me to think they were shooting poor percentages because teams were contesting their shots. I say guard them anyway. Late close outs mean they had a perfect look at the rim. Even I can make one if I’m the only one in the gym.

Still—how much firepower they have down low has to effect your defensive approach to some extent. The gators certainly have some guys you don’t want to give a lot of space to work on the paint.

So what’s my recommendation? I guess bring the energy and work your tail off from the tip and give guys a breather when you have to. Definitely NOT beating them without a mammoth effort anyway.

Florida is going to be hard to win at their place. We can't get behind like we have in some games. If we can win there it will be a BIG win.

So a week to prep for the Gators. No excuses.

They've got to be better at FTs and finishing at the rim. Miss way too many easy baskets. Big boys need to dunk it whenever possible and stop trying to finesse it into the basket. Throw it down young man!!
