    UK passing

Do any of you guys or girls think our passing looks bad sometimes ? I have seen a number of time passes at the teammates feet . Have noticed this in a few games. Thoughts ?

I think we force a lot of passes into places they can't go.

It's just one symptom of a bigger problem... low basketball IQ/court awareness.

It isn't just the passing. I don't know how many time this year I've seen someone cut toward the basket exactly where either someone is posting up OR someone is driving to the goal. It's like they just know they are supposed to cut toward the basket if the defender is overplaying them on the perimeter, but they have no court awareness/IQ to see & understand the timing of to make it work. I mean, traditionally the Princeton teams would carve defenses up with well-timed back cuts, etc, NOT because they were so much more athletic but because they knew WHEN & WHERE to do it.

I see similar things on defense. They know they are supposed to "hedge early" if the opponent is trying to drive the ball. However, so many times they hedge too much or when it isn't needed and then get beat by their own man cutting for an open shot on the wing or to the basket.

So, to me, it's like they are trying to do the right thing, but they are just so robotic about "doing" the thing that they mess it up by not knowing how/when to do it.

It's probably just a symptom of too much AAU ball and not enough actualy foundational coaching at the middle/high school levels.

Honestly, Oweh is one the worst imo. Especially into the post.

I think they're improving on hedging and getting back on defense but some of their passing drives me nuts, especially telegraphic their passes.
do they even know or teach players to follow up on their outside shots. Use to get a lot of long rebounds

Yes I’ve noticed them not passing when they should, forcing it when they shouldn’t (lots of turnovers just last game because of this) and passes too low or just enough offline to prevent what should have been an open shot for the receiver of the pass.

and lots of dribbling with no drive

Mo D should never dribble. Ever!

I did believe Pope when he said he needed to simplify just about everything for this team. I do think they are improving, but there will still be stretches that make you question it all.

I think Moreno is doing better passing out of the post.

                    you can see improvement

hopefully, it gets them through the SEC with a good record

                    maybe 12-6 or 13-5

hopefully, the horrible losses were early enough that the seeding committee forgets and there is some recency bias. lol

It's definitely an issue. I attribute much of this to how defenses are playing us- pressuring the perimeter and playing over the top in the post.

But our pick n' pop passing is bad, and our pocket passes (dropping a pass to the screener) is atrocious at times. We also have a nasty habit of throwing the ball to the feet of cutters.

                      Definitely room for improvement.
