Say what you want but he has a record exactly comparable to Billy Clyde Gillispie . He’s had 22 million to spend on a roster and we have exactly 0 recruits coming in 2026-2027. I don’t know but to me this doesn’t exactly fit the resume of being the UK basketball coach but I guess the standard has been lowered here the last 10 plus years. Mitch has honestly ruined our basketball program and I will be so glad when he is long gone!

Gillispie would have absolutely gotten a 3rd year if not for the off court stuff and the treatment of players.

When Clyde was coaching UK. The SEC was at its lowest point in my 55 seasons of following Kentucky. It was a really bad conference.
Pope may or may not be the man for the job. But he is not getting fired off of 1 down year. Nor should he. Pope took a rag tag bunch won the most ranked games in a season in program history.
Clyde lost to VMI among others.

If Billy Clyde would have never beaten the great Rick Pitino in a anti Tubby Smith Rupp Arena crowd in the Ncaa regional, would have never been hired.

Regardless, within months he was living like a 80's Rockstar, know that for a fact. If your winning it dont matter, nobody cares. Still, me and few others here tried to warn people early on but nobody gave a crap lol lol, it was all pom poms and cheers lol lol lol , until it wasn't..
