I don't see how the NCAA can allow a player who has played in a non NBA professional league return to college but not allow one who played on the NBA to do likewise.

The NBA is a separate animal all to itself. Just because there are "professional" leagues (HA!) other than the NBA doesn't mean that they are on par with and the equivalent of the NBA. The NBA is THE gold standard where the absolute best of the best from all over the world aspire to play someday. They pay level is in a while other stratoslevel as well.

NIL has been great for college sports. It's been a long time coming for athletes to be able to be paid while playing college sports. But, the latest trend proves that right now, there are no real boundaries at all. This latest trend is adding players who are on NBA contracts, or simply just past their college years for that matter, to return to college and join a team midseason, especially right now as the semester break continues.

The first big domino that turned heads was Baylor picking up a commitment from James Nnaji, who was picked #31 in the 2023 NBA Draft. Others have followed, and now, Kentucky seems to be getting involved in this trend. On Saturday night, it was reported by Recruits News that Mark Pope and the Kentucky staff have expressed interest in Trentyn Flowers, who is currently on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls. In his college recruitment days, he was committed to Louisville before opting to go straight to the pros. Of course, this news is a little surprising to Kentucky fans, but nationally, it's all just a part of the latest trend that no one can make sense of, but coaches are starting to take advantage.

Kentucky is reportedly in the mix for a current NBA player on a two-way contract

The members of the NCAA are schools, academic institutions. We are at a time where the LAST thing anybody cares about is a degree. Lots of folks today would lie to and steal from their own mothers if they could make enough money.

Looks like Flowers could fit right in. 20 yr old with history of neck and wrist problems. Yes, I know, anyone can get hurt.

Flowers has played in two games for the Bulls this month although sparingly (1 min. in one game and 4 mins. in another). This should be interesting.

If UK was going to get a mid season player i would think it would be a backup PG. Johnson is not going to be a good backup PG. CBB is getting weirder and weirder as the years go by.

Two weeks ago this team was devoid of any team chemistry! For nearly a month all the talk was about how dysfunctional this team was and how the players didn't like each other and how it was obvious there was no team chemistry..... and now it's supposedly such a cohesive unit that we can't dare add any talent because it might possibly disrupt all this wonderful team chemistry???

Sorry, I'm not buying it. If a player can help win, that's ALL I care about. I don't care about feelings or any other psychobabble nonsense. Just whether a player can help this team win, and win big!

This is me as well. It's blowing it way out of proportion to think a new player will mess up team chemistry. That shouldn't really be a concern.

If team chemistry was the issue during those 4 horrible losses, maybe we should be concerned about it now if this group is that fragile.

With the advent of NIL and the Transfer Portal I wonder just how much team chemistry there is anymore.

Agreed. These guys are used to being on different teams and squads at this point. It shouldn't be much of an issue unless the person is a really bad seed - and I'm sure the staff will vet that to the best of their ability.

To me at least you play the guys on your roster when the season starts. It has been one of the things that make the college game different from the pro game. Many seem to want it to go in that direction but it isn't my cup of tea. I suppose the day will come when we will be signing guys to 10 day contracts like the pros do because after all as Al Davis said " Just win baby".
