Woke up today with dull/sad feeling in these big blue bones. One of the few times in my life I have zero optimism for UK basketball and its future. Really feels like the program is at a crossroads. It sucks to watch other games and see teams playing hard and in a system. We got some hex on us, and at this rate I expect we get treated to a FF of Duke, Ark, UConn, and Tenn or UL.

Really? I had zero optimism for the last 7 years of so of Cal. Never mind that, I was angry that he wasn't even trying as a coach. Even though this team is very much under performing, I'm still much happier with things now than I had been for recent years before Pope. I know Pope cares a lot. I still think he turns things around.Woke up today with dull/sad feeling in these big blue bones. One of the few times in my life I have zero optimism for UK basketball and its future. Different strokes, for different folks. I have no ill-will towards Pope, but what in world makes you confident he'll turn it around. His resume is what it is for a reason.

As much as I want Pope turn this around, this is still the elephant in the room...
It's funny, Nate Oats recently made a statement that there was only school he may have considered leaving Alabama for. He did not mention any names but also said he was never contacted......
I think Nate Oats leaves Alabama for Kentucky if we really want him, just my opinion.
Oats has proved that he can be good at Alabaman, imagine what he could do at Kentucky? To me it's a Memphis/Cal/Kentucky type of deal for Oats.
Oats whole career would change at Kentucky...

I don't think Kentucky ever contacted Oats or anybody associated with Oats.

I think Barnhardt has a handful of "favorites" and he marches to the beat of his own drum. The entire world could be screaming "THESE ARE THE FIVE BEST CANDIDATES TO CONSIDER".... and if they aren't on Mitch's personal list, it doesn't matter.
Anybody recall how John Calipari wasn't contacted or even considered when Tubby resigned and Gillespie was hired? The second time around 2 years later, when Gillespie didn't work out and was fired....Mitch only contacted Cal after being told and Informed by boosters, donors and high level types that "Hey, THIS is the guy you should be considering".
I don't know anything for certain, but I'd almost be willing to bet my bottom dollar that Oats wasn't contacted because he probably wasn't on Barnhardt's list of favorites.
I'd also be willing to bet that Billy Donovan, Bruce Pearl, Tommy Lloyd, and T. J. Otzelberger weren't contacted or considered either. I think Barnhardt thought Drew would say yes, and when he didn't he thought Hurley couldn't turn down the money, and he did. When that happened he immediately went to the safest and surest of sure things and had blinders on for Pope and went into "let's finalize this" mode.👍 1Comment

Calipari wasn't contacted the first time because UK wasn't desperate enough yet to get its hands dirty. Saying otherwise is revisionist history.
And we really don't know if Oats was or wasn't contacted or if he had interest or if UK doesn't for some reason. People like to throw around opinions as facts.Comment

No matter what the product is horrible in year 2. The coaching is horrible in year 2 and Pope started out this pressers after the losses badly with just nonsense reasons for his failures. He is to the point now of looking like the dog hiding because he chewed up the furniture. He is lost and the antics on the bench is showing just how lost he is at this point. He has coaches showing heated exchanges with players, players heated exchanges with each other and then you have the stories out of the locker room which could be fact of fiction. Pope feeds the problem by make just odd statements and such and has since this summer making wild claims about how much he spent on the roster. He looks foolish and actually worse at this point than a drunk BCG. He needs to own up to the product, change what he is doing and whip them into shape. Wont help this year much as they are just not good enough to win the big games, but should help win the games they should win. Sorry for the Rant.Proverbs 25:24👍 2Comment

The confusing thing to me is that we haven't seen any of the coaching that we did last year. I understand we had some bad losses last year, too; but we also had some huge wins. Where is the guy who was calling out what Flagg would do, where is the guy I saw in Seattle switching to 1-3-1 zone to overcome being down 18? It can't all be on the players.
I do expect a year 3, but he is going have to tell some guys good-bye and scour the portal for guys who actual fit into his system. He needs shooters, and I am realizing how important a passing big is in his system. He is going have to get his hands dirty and play the recruiting game to the max now, and probably hurt some feelings.Comment

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Mitch doesn't really need you to come to his defense, but thanks for playing.
Again, thanks, Captain. Of course it's opinion. A strong one that I feel relatively certain about, but my opinion, none the less. In case you were unaware, that's kind of the purpose of forums ..for people to express and voice their opinions. Disagree all you want, but don't be an ass about it.Comment

I wasn't being that. How in the world did you cone to the conclusion that I was??? And I didn't resort to childishly calling names like you did. Which is always a sign that you don't have any actual counterpoint.

Are you talking to yourself there? I said nothing inappropriate. NOTHING at all. Unlike you calling me names like an 8th grader completely out of the blue. Honestly, this is the kind of crap I came here to avoid.Comment

Sheesh.
You said that I called you names. Captain Obvious is intended to be humorous....sorry that was either lost on you or that you took it personally. (SEE? I have no problem saying sorry). Maybe I did the same and took it personally when you said that I was "childish" or "an 8th grader" and that I "didn't have a counterpoint". Or, when you asked if I was "talking to myself".
Bottom line...I think we're all frustrated with the level of this team's play and with the results. Tempers will flare as a result. I'm not the type who appreciates little jabs thrown my way from out of the blue and for no reason, especially when I didn't start something. I simply stated an opinion that wasn't even addressed to you and you felt the need to provide your thoughts on people like me having such an opinion. Don't forget, that's where all this stemmed from. Had you not felt the need to say that I was resorting to "revisionist history" or "throwing around opinion as facts" (when I clearly said "I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING FOR CERTAIN...") this all would have been avoided.
Now, if you can move on and engage in the future in a semi-friendly or polite manner, then terrific! If not, then I suggest for you to put this "8th grader" on ignore.Comment

You neglected to mention you called me an ass, so there's that. I'd be thrilled if you put me on ignore at this point. You seem to be triggered very easily.Comment
