    The money thing

Lotta folks were crowing not too long ago about Kentucky being the NIL big boy. Yeah
    they were.
Now that's turned into an albatross.
look, I don't really know how much money got spent.
maybe it was 22 million. Maybe less. Maybe MORE.
Fact is there's a Lotta money in college basketball. Fact is we expect a big return from whatever was spent.
Fact is we ain't getting it so far, and it's gonna take a monster change.

    It ain't all the money.

This team needs a heart transplant.

I'd be just as upset if they weren't being paid. I didn't give them a dime. Money doesn't factor into the situation for me.

I've read alot of statements about NIL corrupting teams. Not sure I buy it. Michigan paying a ton of NIL but playing like gangbusters. Ot seems to me that regardless of money performance will always boil down to drive and character. Our team seems to have a few guys deficient in both. Im not sure how you fix that this year. I do know that if Pope gets a 3rd year( and I think he should) he better make better decisions about who he brings in here than he did this year. If he doesn't it will definitely be his last.

Michigan spent the money better. I don't know what they're paying Lendeborg, but if we paid out as much as has been reported....then we could have afforded to match them or pay more! And that dude is worth it!

I don't understand Pope's desire to have a roster of "everyone is the same". It really seems like he doesn't want any standout player that makes more or has more of an impact/more star recognition. I can appreciate the "TEAM" concept, but every good team has a few players that are head and shoulders better than the rest. Even in a "system" that relies on having 4 or 5 players in doubles figures scoring....there needs to be a couple of bona fide studs that are capable of doing it all and taking over on days when their teammates just aren't bringing it or aren't capable.

BINGO. It's not about how much money you spend, it's about spending it right. Look at where we spent our money in the portal:

Aberdeen - 6th man at Florida
Dioubate - 0 starts in 2 years at Bama
Lowe - 3rd team all ACC
Quaintance - knew he was going to be out for an extended period of time with knee injury
Williams - 5th leading scorer on a 19-14 mid major

                  Add that to these guys:
                  Chandler - 2.7ppg last year
                  Garrison - 5.9ppg last year
                  Noah - 2.7ppg last year
                  Oweh - 16.2ppg last year

                  Add in your 4 recruits:
                  Johnson - 24th ranked recruit via 247
                  Moreno - 27th ranked recruit via 247
                  Hawthorne - 33rd ranked recruit via 247
                  Jelavic - 161st ranked recruit on 247

Oweh has been extremely disappointing. Lowe has been hurt. Quaintance hasn't played. Those are your top 3 guys (most likely) and it hasn't worked out. You move past those 3 and it's a very average roster.

                    Exactly.

People keep getting caught up in the "I don't care how much a player makes..." nonsense.

It isn't about the individual players and how much they're making.

I don't care that JQ is making 8 million to sit on the bench.

I care that someone is strategically and tactically spending those funds to produce an Elite Kentucky Basketball team.

I don't think that happened this year. I think we paid a bunch of dudes some dough. Some of those dudes were paid over market value. Some of those dudes do not fit. Some of those dudes are not providing something or are bad voodoo and that is hampering the team.

Spend as much as necessary but spend it wisely.

Stop wasting it on kids who spend most of the year injured. Stop wasting it on kids who can't seem to figure out how to put a round ball into a hole with a net on it when that is the whole point of basketball.

GET THE BALL INTO THE HOLE!

This puts a lot into perspective. Not sure if the staff just whiffed on everyone and this was the best they could do, or if they really had a different vision on how this team would come together and play. None of them were really known as shooters, yet we are trying to take 30 3s a game.

Watching a post game interview of Aberdeen in regards to the boo's from Kentucky fans, he gets its, he understands it.

Promises this team will make changes moving forward....

Win or lose, I can accept that as long as they are giving everything they have to give.
