And Arkansas last year.
We could easily lose 3 out of the next 4, 4 out of 6.
Hate to hit the panic button but it feels like the wheels are coming off.
Worse than that, not sure i trust Pope, he's going to have to earn that moving forward..Comment

I am a Pope guy. That being said, I did not watch a single play, will not watch a single play. This team is not top 40 at this point. Pope is failing year 2. He caused most of this as well. Preseason acting like the money spent was well spent. It in fact was not. Pope got wrapped up in loyalty to BG. Pope put too much on Oweh which is really option 3 in a good offense and gets his points from hustle plays and defense. Now that Pope is attracting PG that cannot play in the season, it really hurts. JQ at this point would be better off practicing slowly and getting himself ready for the draft over playing for a team that is not good. Collin Chandler by end of year will be the best player on this team and is probably the best player now and that is not a good thing. Moreno is coming along but is a freshman big man. Aberdeen is a hard worker but has many holes. Pope better start planning for a year 3 final 4 or NC or he will be shown the door next year. No one going to put up with this much longer. I still plan on waiting till 2026 after the holidays before actually watching this team. They have no player leadership and that is 80% of the issue.
The glaring thing that made me tune out was my guy, Oweh. When he said in an interview that Pope had to have one on one discussions with each player to let them know where they are failing and what they need to do. That says a ton when Oweh, Garrison, Chandler and Noah were here all last year and is still having to be reminded of what is needed.
Could they turn it around, sure, But at best even if they do this is a 9-12 see team at best and misses the tourney if they keep floundering.

I may be wrong.....but Mark Pope seems to want to have a team of "good" players rather than a few studs, some good players and some role players. Because two years in a row he really hasn't had a "Batman" on the roster. Oweh is a "Robin", at best. I was really hoping for Dent or Lendeborg or some stud portal transfer this year, but when you're best portal transfer is an 18 year old sophomore who is a defensive specialist that is coming off of a torn ACL....that doesn't exactly instill confidence. Especially when it's pretty obvious that the shooting on this year's team was going to be a huge step down from last year. And the injuries??? My God! Pope appears to be snake bit in that regard. Two years in a row now! It's hard to tell how good this team MIGHT be when you have Dioubate, Quaintence and Lowe all hurt and MIA.Comment

This is where I the rubber meets the road, analytics vs. Feel for the game. My MLB team is by far the most analytical team but they get by with because of organizational development farm system plus they have the biggest payroll and best player in the world. I question Pope's Feel for the game, the substitutions, lots of things at this point.
We don't have star true game changing talent, fooling ourselves thinking second transfers going to make a difference and get us over the hump but who knows , maybe it will, still time..Comment

This team could lose to every ranked team and many of the SEC teams. Pope making statement that he thought some guys came along tonight, reading here what you all saw, my brother texting me, I can say he is delirious or is just lying to himself. Not sure how he thought he would play his guys this year but whatever that thought was he needs to scrap it and start over. This team is not a run and gun team. This team is not a 30 3's a game team. It is not a pound it inside team either. One true inside option a freshman who is not fleet of feet. So you have 3 drivers on the team each 6-4 to 6-5. Not a good combo. No one to facilitate the offense. Doubt you see Lowe again this year. JQ who knows. It is a bust of a team so far. We have not beaten one decent team (not counting exhibition). We get 2 more wins before SEC play and both are the lower tier teams NC Blind and liking it and Baller mine uni. The rest with the current roster, current game plan will lose. Merry Christmas. The best news of the basketball season is we fired Stoops and hired the football version of Mark Pope. I like Stein but if he starts out like Pope year 2 he will be gone quicker than a popcorn fart.Proverbs 25:24Comment

I think that's it. You can have the greatest "system" in the world...but if mediocre talent is executing it, then it isn't going to matter.
This team needs playmakers. We got by last year because we had shooters. We didn't have to worry about going 1 for 13 from three point range. I remember posting earlier this year that I was worried and could see us having a game like this in the tournament that would keep us from winning #9. It's hard to win six in a row with streaky/spotty shooting. Shades of Cal's first team with Boogie/Wall/Patterson, etc. They ran up against a good Bob Huggins West Virginia team where they shot like that. A few years later Cal had shooters like Doron Lamb who helped him win a title. It's basketball. Shooting mattersComment

Can't shoot. No PG. Terrible defense amd rebounding effort. We have a lot to fix but we need a facilitator in the worst way.Comment

Initially I felt that Pope was allowing the analytics to override his feel for the game. Now I am not sure if he does have a feel for the game. I have to wonder with his substitutions, who substitute for and how he takes out the guys who were playing well.

I thought Oweh would be the GUY after his play last year but now I believe he doesn’t want that responsibility. If he was going to be that guy he would be demanding the ball, but he doesn’t do that.
Still time to turn this rolling wreck around but I must ask if Pope is up to the job. I sure hope so!

Pope is going to have to make some changes offensively if wants to turn this season around. We cannot keep running what we are running, it just doesn't work with current personnel. Maybe try running some 4 guard sets or going massive playing Moreno, Garrison/ Jelavick at same time. We needed Mo desperately on the boards tonight. I also thought Pope coached very poorly during 10+ minute drought. Wish he had used a timeout or 2 to call some plays when we were obviously struggling to score.Comment

I said something very similar after the exhibition loss to Georgetown, but they aren't all on the same page on offense and defense. It looks like they are each running a different scheme on both ends of the court. It pains me to say it because I'm a big fan of Pope, but it looks like they are uncoached.Comment
