First AP Poll of the Season - UK 9th

Louisville comes in at 11. They've made quite the turnaround as bad as I hate to admit it.

kind of thought they’d be a couple spots higher, but can’t really complain being top 10 in preseason.

If I counted correctly, UK will play 10 of the ranked teams + #1 in an exhibition. SEC might take a very small step back from last season, but still looking like a gauntlet.

Good of a spot as any for preseason. Down far enough to motivate (chip on the shoulder). Heck UK has 2 starting 5's (by themselves not top 10) together they should be top 5 for sure. I really cannot wait to see how Pope puts this team on the floor, sub situations and so forth. I really think with Williams, Diabote, Oweh, Aberdeen and Chandler we would have a pressing trapping defense (small yes) but everywhere. Then when JQ is there we can do: JQ, Garrison, Mo, (2 of the bigger guards) for a large pressing / trapping defense. I think if the team takes defense to heart it can be a special year and scoring will take care of itself. Got more than enough shooters/slashers/inside type of scorers.

Same here. I thought we should be just outside the top 5 at around #6, but probably would be a spot or two lower that that at #7 or #8....so #9 is a little disrespectful, to be honest. I think that's more of a dis at Mark Pope than it is UK or the players on the roster, to be totally honest. Coach Pope hasn't achieved the type of success yet that will automatically get high preseason rankings....but as we all know, that means absolutely nothing. How many times did Cal have a top 5 ranked team in the preseason that flamed out during the season or ended up getting bounced in the first round of March Madness?

I personally think the Cats are better than #9 but it's really too early for any poll To be correct.

Pobilly, I saw a youtube vid the other day where they compared UK to Noah's Ark in that we have two of everything. I look at last years team, and while they hold a special place in my heart, they were really limited. We got a lot deeper and A LOT more athletic this season. It's gonna be a fun season. I think we have more than a good shot to be really special this year. May have a few bumps along the road, but I feel once JQ gets acclimated to game speed, we're gonna be extremely hard to beat.
