    SEC News- Pearl to retire

Very unexpected, but seeing it reported that Pearl will be retiring and his son will coach the upcoming season. He really did a nice job to build Auburn up, kind of doubt his son will keep that momentum going.

Odd to pic this late in the year. I guess that is one way to make sure you kid gets the job. I am guessing he was not confident enough to retire after last year. Had to stay on to make sure his son got the job. I am guessing it could be a short lived job if he drops off much at all. Wonder if they lose any players over this.

Without starting a debate on his likely platform, it’s heavily rumored he’s getting out now to go into politics, so I’m assuming the timing of lining up a campaign may have more to do with it than anything strictly basketball related, although practically being able to assure his son gets the first shot as his successor this way is probably also appealing to him.

I assume he sees writing on the wall too......any big money spent on NIL at Auburn won't be on basketball.

So that means the players are immediately allowed to transfer, right? I don't think I'd want any of the guys off that team, though.

I believe they get a 30 day window. One would think this was discussed behind the scenes first, to make sure there wouldn't be a mass exodus right before the season at AU.

Not all that surprising. That's the #1 reason why I wasn't really interested in having him replace Cal. Had he been 5 or 6 years younger he might have been one of my top 3 choices.

All of the players get a 30 day window to transfer, kinda puts them in a really bad spot if too many of them bolt. It's too late to go find players elsewhere. But also, Anyone who transfers can't join a team till after the fall semester. Not a good predicament for those kids.

Think he has his eyes on politics. Maybe an Alabama Senate seat.

Torres agrees with timing. Was to get his son the job. Not sure it will be more than interim.

Torres also states Pearl does want to get into politics. Not sure if he is that guy. But Alabama area does get sports figures involved like Tuberville.

He actually said in his press conference today that he considered it, but is not running for senate. I think it's 100% to make sure his son got the job.

AU would be insane to not make him interim to start, but I hope Bruce pressures them to make him HC. The guy has only been an actual assistant since 2017 and now he’s going lead an SEC squad.
