This is not a knock on Pope or even Cal, but BBM - or really any college team basketball kickoff event - just isn't the same as it was 30 years ago. 24/7 news and video have really lessened the excitement.

Good thing is it's about a month away..... What would be really cool is if it went back to actually being midnight (12:00 am) madness.

I know people are going to be upset by my thoughts, but Maddness has been hurt tremendously by adding the women's team to it. It's just not what people want to see when you're waiting for the men's team to get started.

I think the last BBM I watched was in Cal's early years. Like already posted, we get plenty of articles, player/staff interviews, and practice clips all summer long to get to know the team. It has taken some of the shine off of it. I am also sure it is a better viewing experience in person versus watching it at home.

I used to go to every BBM (Midnight Madness) then when it stopped at midnight I stopped. Back in the day standing outside of Memorial for 8 to 10 hours was a blast (as a young person). Then after 5 knee surgeries it was way more of a how long can I be on concrete and such without just being in pain for a few days (but again worth it). When it went to Rupp it was fun but for some reason no matter how early I was in the ticket line online I never got lower seats. Which was odd and stopped being as fun (again dealing with Rupp and knees). Last Year I went to Rupp a few times, Spring for Pope Presser, BBM and 1 game. I also went to 1 UK football game last year. The pain I was in the whole time just was not enjoyable. My brother (older by 7 years) and I went to those events together. I also went to 2 baseball games (was much better on legs). But after the last BBALL game in Rupp I want to I told my brother that was most likely the last time I would be in Rupp for UK game and Commonwealth for a football game. I still want to get out to a tailgate this year if at all possible.

I will watch BBM/Exhibitions/games and such from home this year. I will miss the atmosphere but it is for the best for me.

BBM is 4 weeks or so away. Will either go by fast (if football games are competitive) then time will fly as we are engaged in football deeply. If we end up like last year and Stoops loses the players then he will lose some of us and the time will drag. Hoping it flies by. We are 6 weeks away from Purdue exhibition game. That will be very interesting to see how fast this team comes together.
