How much home court advantage is rupp arena

Since the Cat rarely practice there, it's almost like playing on a neutral floor. I know the home crowd brings a lot and they are our savior but there are times when the opponent outshoots us from outside.
I remember at old memorial collesium the opponents felt like they walking into a lions den with a pork chop ass.

I don't get why they don't practice there.

That should have been worked into the contract with the city or whomever.

Hopefully, in about a decade, they'll build a new one and call it Pope's Cathedral.

Not nearly as big as it should be. There's no reason a UK fan should ever turn on an away game or any other team and be jealous of the atmosphere, but that pretty consistently happens. There's just too much old money in the lower level to do anything about it.

I got a post on here just a bit ago about the men's new practice facility plans is to have the new building out by commonwealth stadium. Then women's sports can take over Joe Craft, basketball / volleyball and such. If the men's practice goes out there will there be future plans for either commonwealth becoming a dome? Could there be room for a new arena out by the stadium? What say you all?

I can't see them ever making it a dome, but if Pope continues this success I could see a new arena being announced in the next 5-10 years.

I've never understood not practicing at Rupp, that just seems like basic stuff. I don't think that has anything to do with teams having big nights in Rupp. That is more adrenaline from playing UK and being in front of a big crowd. We see teams/guys go off and never come close to that night ever again.

For a big game, its hard to beat Rupp's atmosphere, there also aren't many buildings filling 20k+ for a directional school. I do wish there was more emphasis on getting students closer to the floor, but money rules all.

As long as OLD money is sitting on the floor, it's not a great advantage playing in Rupp IMO. Nothing against the lifelong ticket holders, they have earned that right but at the same time, it's not like other venues where you have young kids jacked up on energy drinks and coked out screaming from the sidelines...

Still, the biggest problem I see at Rupp is the educated fan base itself. We just don't get that enthused watching a game unless it's being played out too perfection. It's almost as if we are all sitting back taking notes instead of just enjoying the game. Everything is under the microscope...

UK could improve the atmosphere some. They have won a ton at Rupp though percentage wise so obviously it's a strong home court.

Haven’t we won like 90% of our games in Rupp?

                  And about 70% away?

                  So it’s worth 20%.

                  Who does better?

Looked up the Rupp Arena record. 88.4%.

I couldn’t readily find the away record.

One option would be to make season tickets a lottery thing. It would surely upset folks, probably donors (I honestly don't know anything about this), but would give people who DO love the UK basketball program a chance to be down there and intimidate the opponents.

What people are in there that don't love UK basketball?

It would really be interesting to know what the win pct was in old memorial collesium

They all do... otherwise they're not going to be spending the amount of money that they are on tickets to be there.

I think what they're trying to suggest is that "old people with money" can afford tickets in an area that (they believe) "should" be reserved for students...or for younger people who will cheer louder and more enthusiastically than older people who, by and large, are going to be more reserved and cheer politely.

Is there some truth to that? That the younger students would cheer more enthusiastically and louder? I'm sure there is.....but is a "lottery" system that gives a poor person an equal opportunity to have a seat that somebody who's worked most of their life and can afford to spend five times as much as the student can afford the right thing to do? Nope. Especially in the day and age of NIL....where players are getting paid and the NEED for mucho dinero ($$$) to be getting to the university so that it can compete with other schools for the top players is greater

I would think those numbers are available.

                            Maybe Jon Scott?

I seem to remember it also being 90% or so

I did look up Duke’s win % at home and it’s about 85%

Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse is 87%

Who else has a reputation of home court advantage?

If Duke or Kansas is not higher than Rupp I can’t imagine anyone else being.

If we could somehow get the same crowd in there that goes to SEC Tourney it would be a huge advantage, unfortunately that doesn't happen. No comparison to the atmosphere you got at Memorial. Besides Memorial the Loudest courts I have been to 1. The old Barnhill arena. 2. The old Stokley arena. 3. Phog Allen, 4. Assembly Hall. 5. The old St Johns arenaRupp is huge but the most vocal fans are sitting g in the Upper Decks. The lower bowl gets loud when UK is rolling but during average play, not so much.
