You know it's going to be a great year

... when the summer isn't filled with crap about the NBA.

That probably has more to do with this board being managed far better than the other one.

At first blush I thought the poster was talking about how refreshing it is to not be worried about our coach leaving to the NBA.

But maybe it's the NBA generally? This board has never really been that interested in the NBA as a rule. For one, it has always skewed a little older, so it's more traditional...therefore most people have always wanted to just talk UK. Over the years here I've noticed most people will just flat-out admit they don't watch the NBA.

I really like the NBA, particularly the playoffs. But I'll admit I couldn't talk it on a message board. Simply don't know enough about it except just basic stuff.

Now if there were a massive trade or something...which I suspect there's gonna be at some point here...I'd discuss a little here.

There were lots of posts on the NBA itself (even non-Kentucky related) on RR in the main UK bball board. I'm not sure how much actual discussion there was because I rarely clicked on those. But always wondered why people thought it made sense to post about the NBA on a UK basketball message board. And why the board allowed it.

Well it's July and the nba season is over so not much to talk about even if someone wanted to.

Most of those threads were about former UK players doing well n the nba, many of whom led UK to a title or made a final four here.

That pre dated the calipari era as well. People talked about Rondo, Hayes, prince, all the 90s guys like delk scoring 50 plus. Etc.

            🤣🤣🤣

Since COVID and until Pope, I'd bet the majority have been DISAPPOINTED that "our coach (Cal) hasn't left for the NBA". I'd bet the majority probably were hoping that the coach (Cal) would have left for an NBA job.

Yeah, I knew the poster wasn't referring to talk about the coach leaving for the NBA. Anyone who has paid attention the last 15 years should know that Kentucky fans have Kentucky pride and an a interest in the Kentucky program, and how the current Kentucky team is going to do the upcoming season....NOT how this former one and done player that's been gone for the last 8 years and is now in the NBA is doing, or how he just signed with this NBA team or won this NBA league award. Those things should be side notes, not headline features. Under Cal, unfortunately, they had become just that.... and I'm sure that is what the OP meant.

Yeah, it was sort of an ironic flip from "I wish we didn't have to talk about the NBA every summer!" to "I wish we could talk about the NBA this summer!"

I spent the last few years hoping the coach would leave for the NBA

I always found some people's hatred for the NBA or posting about it to be weird. I don't mind discussing a pro league on a basketball board, especially when UK has a lot of alumni playing all over that league. If Booker drops 70, no harm in posting about it. If a giant scandal breaks out in the league, no harm posting about it.

I don't watch a ton of regular season NBA because I don't have "a team" and am more invested in UK/college, but once the NCAA tournament is over, I do watch the playoffs casually until the conference finals and intently the rest of the way. I thought this year's playoffs were outstanding. It's basketball at a much higher level than college. Nearly everyone is great. Admitting that doesn't mean college basketball is bad or you can't enjoy both.

I saw somebody on ESPN once, I'm pretty sure Marc Stein back when he was working for them (may still be?), getting asked if he was gonna watch the NCAA Tournament. He scoffed and basically said, "Why would I do that? You don't watch college basketball when the NBA exists."

Of course that's a guy who's paid to watch the NBA, so it's different. But my take about this, and basically sports in general, is that it's so much better if you have a rooting interest. That's what makes it. I'm not a whole lot interested in sports just in a vacuum. However because of UK, I'm infinitely interested in college basketball...and not just Kentucky but how the field impacts Kentucky. The vested interest makes the magic.

                      Same.

I enjoy the NBA, and especially the playoffs, which is where the best basketball in the world is played. Never understood the anti-NBA sentiment, although I have my suspicions.

Cal going on about the NBA in the offseasons never bothered me, because I knew it was all part of his Big Pitch, and it worked until it didn't.

I used to love watching NBA games back in the 80's. CBS always seemed to have some good games on Sundays. The Bird/McHale Celtics teams vs Lakers or Sixers were great games. Now I could care less about it.

I don't have an anti-NBA sentiment, just don't give a rat turd about the teams. Other than to watch Stephen Curry, I basically never watch a NBA game.

Lots of talk about the NBA meant, at one time, that Kentucky had a good year. Then Bo Ryan ate Cal's soul.

I think some people can't differentiate between wondering why some people are confused why some people want to post about the NBA on a college basketball message board vs hating the NBA.
