UK vs Austin Peay 1973 NCAA game

Does anyone here remember this game? If so, do you remember anything unusual about the game?

I remember it. It was close. AP had James "Fly" Williams, who was a sensation back then. Larry Stamper had a big game for the Cats. Or at least hit a big shot late.

Anybody remember Travis grant and Elmore Smith , that played for Kentucky state university. Two big time players, they won 3 consecutive national naia championships from 70 to 72 . Travis grant, I believe, led the nation in scoring. Elmore Smith was a big rebounding machine ,who was a force in the nba too. Very very good team

I remember Grevey had a good game along with several others on the team. I think we had a double double guy that day and they had a double double guy as well. Was an extremely competitive game for sure.

Grevey and Jim Andrews both hit the double-double as did Howard Jackson of Austin-Peay.

It was in Nashville at Vandy's gym. I was there but don't remember much about the game except I think it went OT.

Thanks for the link. Jimmy Dan, Stamper, Andrews, Guyette all had really good games. Some in short minutes played. Peay was impressive for a year or three back then for sure.

I remember Jim Andrews being the difference and thinking how much the Super Kittens were going to miss him the next season. If there is ever a discussion of the most underrated players to ever wear the uniform, Andrews has to be near or at the top of my list. If he had been as dedicated to greatness as Issel was, he just might have been in the discussion of the best of all time.

I was there as well, do you recall the altercation between Stamper and Percy Howard?

I was 7. It was second game I remember. UK won 106-100. Seemed like a Friday night late. I was 7 so not sure.

Not really. I do remember Stamper decking Jan Van Breda Kolff at Vandy during the reg season.
