Cal obviously would be against it. If the goal is to get them to reclassify and get to college at 17 and the NBA at 18 they’re not going to be sitting out long. And he certainly had no intention of playing them for 4 years.

But red shirting in general is not real common in anything other than football is it? Especially linemen really benefit from the physical development and maturity.

Our culture is not patient. We are all about instant gratification in western civilization in general. That is magnified in our youth. We cater to that in sports. Few athletes want to “waste” a year of their prime just developing and not competing, even if it will benefit them in the long run.

But with teams able to sign 15 players, that may change. Might be easier to convince your 14th and 15th scholarship guys to redshirt when they aren’t likely to play anyway. If they redshirt, then they could maybe have a better chance to compete for PT with a year of experience practicing in the system.

A guy like Potter, who starts the season likely behind Garrison, Quaintance, and Moreno at the 5 spot, should consider a redshirt. He still gets to practice and can play in the exhibitions. Then he would have two years left, with a year’s experience practicing in Pope’s system.

I’m all for it. Hope it happens. But I ain’t betting on it.

Lowe’s problem last season was efficiency.

If he can improve that, he could be one of the best PGs in the country.

              Pope is all about efficiency.

So he is in the right place to improve on his weaknesses.

I mean that makes sense. He has great talent and you hope with better players around him he shoots better and doesn't force it as much.
