There are spots for Farmer-like players these days with the way everybody is firing threes. Gotta get stronger, toughen up, get some age and miles on him.

Thing is, we never really saw whether he could be an elite offensive player at this level. He honestly just hit a few shots all year. Most of what we're going by is the outrageous high school stats.

So you never know if it'll transfer to this level, especially in the SEC. Dontaie Allen got a little of that. Came in with those outrageous games...and never did really replicate that except in afew isolated games.

Point being, just because he's a Kentucky high school legend doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna be an elite offensive player up here. But he scored so dang MUCH in hs that you have to think the ability is there to be lethal in the right conditions.

In my mind there's not much of a comparison between the two. Farmer was more athletic and much stronger than Perry. Farmer was a good shooter, but Perry is much better.

I've told this story before, but I went to watch Richie Farmer once in high school. Basic regular season game. I can't even remember where we went, but I think it was somewhere close to us. Not Clay County.

I'm 10 years old or so, there with my dad. We watch the game, IIRC Clay County is stomping the other team, and it's kinda boring. At one point I looked at my dad and said, "I thought he'd be a lot better." Because this was the time when people were coming from all over to watch Farmer play.

My dad looked at me wild-eyed and said, "What are you talking about? He has 55 points."

The difference, Pitino had kids wanting to run through a wall no fear full throttle .

Today, kids are not going to do that for anyone, especially in NIL and the social media era.

IIRC Pitino almost ran Farmer off. He hated his weight and talked openly to the media about how lazy he was. Had him on the treadmill pretty much for a full year with very little practicing with the actual basketball.

I agree. The comparison stops at they're both kids from Kentucky.
