    Okay fortune tellers

So what’s this thing we’ve called college basketball rolling down the highway to?
Kentucky has officially headed into a somewhat different configuration than the old athletic departments we have all been used to.

so what does this lead into? Are there actually going to be college students and class work, or are the athletes going to be considered as employeees of the athletic organization… in some manner apart from the University proper?
some of this is old news….both Michigan and Duke have admittted students for years with a different ‘academic standard’ by applying through the athletic department.

definitely changes pouring down. I have to wonder if this will eventually be considered ‘age adjusted’ professional sports and end the G league systems of today.

I believe they are still students and are supposed to be enrolled, with academic eligibility standards.
The University is just paying them for NIL, since their persona can be used by the university/media/etc. for monetary gain, they too have the ability to "share" in that revenue stream.

Now will a school sit a player who's failing academically..we'll have to see. I'm sure, as in the past an athlete would have to be basically refusing to do the school work before being sat...given the access to tutors and what not

Personally, I have never cared if the players go to a single class.

They will still have to adhere to academic standard, I'm sure, but I'm glad the whole "academics" sham has been tossed aside.

I do not think anyone has any idea what college athletics will look like 10 years from now. When this much money is involved, all bets are off.

I don't think it will take ten years. This thing is rolling like wild.

With college basketball and football being so out of control money wise today, who can guess what the games will be like next year much less in ten.

Like most things, intentions are good with all the changes we have seen in the recent past. Now the gray line is are they employees or students, or like Berea College, are they working students (but at a much higher level of earnings). The intent is to pay guys that should be paid with the amount of monies they are making the university. I mean guys and gals but using guys as generic.

The outcome will be much worse than the intent. I believe once this is done we are a few lawsuits away from it being an entity of athletics sponsored by the universities and it will no longer have anything to do with academia. You will end up with guys in bigger better housing and probably not on university property, you will have a facility probably not on university property for practice. You will have millionaires coming into college at the age of 18, making more millions just trying to get to the jackpot of NBA dollars.

That being said, everything KENTUCKY branded is expensive now, expect it to go way up, expect tickets and such to explode even more, expect concessions to go even higher. It will be rebranded and have nothing to do with NCAA (Which we have all seen coming for a while now), and it will no longer be for the common fan.
