To my knowledge, Brad Stevens never stalked co-eds. But I disgress.

He's clearly a really good coach, but this was Walter Clayton's championship, first and foremost. He's been the best player in college basketball (sorry, Coop) since February.

In the age of parity that is sort of a weird stat. Especially because in that same timeframe (and just before) there've been countless teams in the Final Four *not* ranked in the top 12.

One asterisk is that there've been teams who have won it who struggled in the middle of the season. The two UCONN teams come to mind.

Matt Jones always makes the point that the randomness of the tourney allows for weird teams to make the Elite Eight or the Final Four, but the champion will almost always come from a predictable handful of teams.

I think this is true, which is why I don't really find that stat particularly weird. Of course the champion is going to come from the cream of the crop. We sort of know who these teams are as early as December.
