    Rules and Officiating

    A few questions here:

What are some rules of the game you don't understand or wish more people understood fully?

What changes would you like to see made?

I wish more people understood that you have to have the ball AND both feet across the half court line in order for it to be an over and back. So often you see a player have a foot or the ball cross the line, they go back, and everyone loses their mind because they didn't call and over and back.

I really hope they go to a challenge system at some point instead of all of these dang monitor reviews. Give the coach a challenge each half. They can use it at any time and challenge anything. A missed foul call, out of bounds, literally anything. If they get the challenge wrong, they lose a TO. If they get the challenge right, they get another one.

I also wish they would look at the F1 language. Incidental contact to the head of a defender (thinking of Butler getting called for one when he shot a layup) shouldn't be an F1, IMO.

I also wish officials would be held accountable for stuff. I wouldn't mind seeing them have to hold a press conference after games either, but I know that'll never happen.

This maybe slightly off..but I'm not a fan of the "new and improved " block/charge rules. Its seems almost impossible to et a charge these day. Don't het me wrong the previous setup was the opposite. Seems like they just go from one extreme to the other when they make changes....would be nice to find a middle ground

Agreed. There has to be a middle ground of exactly what the rule should be.

Let's get them back to the idea of if you have a time out within so many seconds of a TV timeout that it counts for the TV timeout.

Ha, now you’re dreaming. It’s all about the $$$$, and nothing will keep the advertisers from getting their moneys worth.

How about...a ref review means the players go opposite floor of the bench....not to the coach for extra time outs
Also...30sec or 1 min time limit on some of these reviews

Yeah, that's a great idea. There were a number of times this year that a coach was out of timeouts and asked for a review.

It might be a good idea to have a review team similar to the NFL. Any plays that are close can have someone "up north" already reviewing in case there is a need to. By the time a coach asks for a review and they begin the process, they've already gotten an answer.

One thing I'd like to see them do away with in the college game: the "Gortat seal." I've seen this happen countless times over the last four/five seasons, and every time it happens I can't understand how it isn't a moving screen (it technically is).

I'm out of the loop, so please explain what that is.

Guard drives the ball, big positions himself on the ball side of his man, then when the driver closes in the big backs his man out of the way (or sometimes buries him beneath the basket) to give a lay-up to the driver.

Think of it as the big boxing out the defender and backing him away from the basket before a shot is taken so the lane opens up for the driver.

I didn't watch the second half of the game last night (5:00 AM comes early) but I heard on the radio that a total of 4 fouls were called in the first half and 26 fouls were called in the second half. Why so inconsistent?

Some of it was because it definitely got pretty physical in the second half. I think the officials tightened things up to prevent any major issues. There were quite a few plays that got chippy and emotions were obviously running high. Florida got two technicals in the second half and they had only been called for one all year.

I get it. But that seems like one extreme to the other. If you're going to let 'em play you gotta do it all game. I didn't see it though so just opining where maybe I have no business to opine 🤣
