Not worried and don't care all that much. Cal going to a crappy franchise would tell us more about his feelings on his current job than his future, IMO.
He said he is not interested. Have to take him for his word. Besides he is not going to sneak out of Lexington. When he takes a job in the NBA, the world will know.

I am more worried about Poythress and his progress that who is going to coach him. I know the latter.

I guess this will take up a few pages on WCN, and that's good. Otherwise, that's all it is, conversation for us. Cal's our Coach.

Well folks this is the one. Cal is gone this time. Fun while it lasted. Only thing left is to sign the contract after a few details get worked out. He will be making lots of trades because it will be nothing but UK players playing for him in the league too. Also 100% confirmed Pitino will be his assistant.

well....our yearly Cal to the NBA run. This one is a heckuva offer....I read somewhere TEN MILLION A YEAR. Front office and head coach. The buyout would likely be thirty to forty million if he went absolutely belly-up.
              insane numbers.
The NBA at it's most bizarre.
But, you know.....a coach's contract is just a starting point for negotiations for his next job or his buyout. That's all. The only two coaches I can think of that I would be floored if they left are K and Izzo.

At that point it comes down to the job itself. I'm not sure Cal enjoyed coaching Cousins when he was at UK; can't imagine that Boogie would be a guy that would make you want to jump to the NBA, even as talented as he is. Would take an incredible amount of day-to-day patience.
Karl pressing to trade out Cousins could have been the final straw. I saw a article that Kings management is going through Karl's contract trying to find a loophole in order to get him out. From everything i have read, Karl wants to be coach/Gm which is why Denver let him go after being coach of the year candidate.

No way Karl and Cousins gets along.

Still think Cal stays at Kentucky....

Cal would definitely have to have non-monetary reasons for leaving - he's slated to make $8M next year. I hadn't really paid any attention to the last contract, but in the previous one I thought he was "only" up to $5.5M/yr. I have no idea the salaries for coach/GMs in the NBA, but I'd like to think Cal is making more than half the coaches. Just a guess really.

Cal would be the fourth highest paid coach in the NBA right now, I think.

I do think though that he has the best job in basketball. Duke would be right there, Kansas and North Carolina (minus the scandal) not far behind. That's one thing that Cal says that isn't a marketing pitch; that's the absolute truth. The only jobs in the NBA that would come close would be the three or four historic franchises, or if he had a chance to fall into a hellacious roster. But even that is arguable because of the difficulty coaching millionaires serves up. Cal has experienced that firsthand before, and has talked at length about how difficult it was.

The only thing about the NBA that I think would be of interest to him would be the personnel side of things, but I still think it would likely take a big-market team to lure him away. Because why would you choose to go to a small-market team like Sacramento, get involved in personnel, only to be cash-strapped and in charge of a franchise that nobody wants to play for?

Just watched some ESPNer talking about it. Said it would take a monumental deal for Cal, including some ownership % in the team.

I guess that makes sense. I'm not saying any of its true nor do I believe it. I'm just curious - are there any other current NBA coaches with a % ownership ?

For the time being, anyway. Just like with coach Pitino, this will be an annual thing as long as Cal's here.

The Kings offer yet another glimpse at the depth of their ineptitude through their latest trade with the Sixers. I seriously doubt Cal's going near that job.

Rajon and Cousins possibly in Sacramento.

Cal should probably jump at that!
