I think it's probably a better caliber of ref, but also the fact that as the SEC wore on, the modus operandi of players/coaches began to essentially just be to beat up the other team. You saw more actually basketball playing rather than wrestling in a lot of those games yesterday.
Well for the Rupp games, none were really close in the 2nd half. So there was less monitor usage just because it wasn’t “needed”.

i will say, in the final minutes, UCLA up 21 and there was a call for Utah St ball and UCLA and Cronin calked for a monitor review, I just got up and left. That was asinine. The refs ignored the player (who was a whiner the whole game) but as I was leaving I saw Cronin whining to the ref. I hope they walked over to the monitor, mumbled a choice name for Cronin, and calked it Utah St. ball immediately.

Day 2 coming, and again one of the most interesting games of the day, Mississippi St./Baylor, is the first to tip off around noon.

Tonight, UCONN/Oklahoma will be interesting, and then "our" game (assuming we win!) Illinois/Xavier will be a good one. Illinois is the nation's weirdest team; they either look unbeatable or putrid depending on the game. Very strange team and I'd probably rather get Xavier, only because Illinois' ceiling is super high.

CAL beat Pitino in 2 NCAA tournaments...and only lost to Pitino once during regular season especially if you take the vacated win away 😂😂😂

            In 1996, sure.

After that, it was complete dominance, even when it mattered the most. 2012/2014 come to mind.

              The Dickinson pass.

"Interesting" is a word that comes to mind here.

I don't like to accuse kids of shaving points, since that's the lowest thing you can do in sports, but...

It's almost so egregious that it's not real.

If it helps any, he's not a kid. He's a paid professional and it sure looks like he tried to throw that game.

With all the legalized gambling as well as the not so legalized gambling it wouldn't shock me. Nor with his reputation that he just said screw it I want this to be done and over with. It wouldn't shock me to see Kansas in the same position next year as Kentucky was this...coach hunting. It was an odd feeling yesterday kind of pulling for Calipari.

Just before that play, KJ Adams left the court with a pretty bad injury. Kansas IIRC was up, and they didn't really score much after that.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a point shaving thing going on. Also it could've been that when Adams went down, the whole team was just done and ready for it to be over with.

Kansas has had a miserable season, one of the first true vomit-fests of Self's entire tenure there...and he's been there for 22 years.

It's odd how long this tourney has been going and there are still firsts...McNeese State had its first win ever. Kansas had never lost in in round one.

Also brought out how the transfer portal/NIL have shifted the game. Drake looked really good. And four of their guys were D-2 transfers. Charles Barkley pointed out that is amazing how many really good ball players were out there few folks ever hear of.

Kansas has definitely lost in the first round. In Self's second and third seasons they were bounced out in the first.

Self's recent run is interesting. Honestly if you look back almost ten years, he either got knocked out in the first or second round or he went to the Final Four. No in between.

The first thing I thought when I was watching that was "point shaving".
