Clever little marketing strategy for ESPN because it gives all those games extra importance for your average viewer. When in reality I'm not sure the committee really looks at head-to-head a whole lot, even in late-season games between similar teams. Which may be one of the reasons Lunardi is mediocre at bracketology.
Oh Lunardi is definitely a click/watch attraction. He talks about how accurate he is, well on Sunday I can get 65/68 teams or maybe better. The seedlings are where the predictions fail, especially with Lunardi.

Unrelated to Lunardi, I’m struggling as a ncaa tourney fan to be onboard with a 6-12 record team getting in.

I was looking at the Lunardi predictions for Rupp Arena next week. Auburn as a 1 seed seems like a lock. So that will be Auburn/16 seed + 8/9 seed.

Lunardi's prediction for the OTHER pod is CRAZY : Kansas v. Arkansas (7/10) + Alabama v. Robert Morris (2/15). The UK fans won't know who to boo most out of those 4 teams.

CRAZY I say. Of course Lunardi rarely gets all the seeds and pod locations right, but I had to comment on him putting those 4 teams in Rupp.

Lexington or Raleigh would be the likely destinations for Auburn just based on geography. I see there are 1st and 2nd round games in Wichita which means Kansas will get the #1 seed and play there.

I feel bad for the Raleigh people - they'll most likely get (2) 1 seeds. There's nothing worse than the 1/16 & 8/9 double pod. The 1/16 is usually not competitive and the 8/9 is usually 2 sloppy/undisciplined teams.

Auburn is a wash - Lexingt0n is 20-ish miles closer than Raleigh. It could be Florida at Rupp. I guess it depends on the SEC tourney which one is the higher 1 seed. Auburn could see Duke take the overall #1 seed

Bad as I hate to say it, Duke does hold the head to head win (albeit at home) and does look really good. If those two teams played again, I'd take Auburn on the money line.

Wofford, coached by Dwight Perry, punches ticket.

                Hilarious autocorrect.

                Wofford punched the ticket.

And Dwight Perry does have an NCAA Tournament start for us. One of the weirder moments in UK history.

Yes, I have to remember that site on this site are more affected by autocorrupt than others.

I forgot the NCAA start for Perry!

Dwight Perry starting an NCAA tournament game, against Kansas no less, was probably the last nail in the Tubby Smith coffin.

A real sign of the times sort of thing. And when you consider that Mark Coury was a consistent starter the next year, well...

Dwight Perry starting due to a paperwork issue was not the end of the world.

I believe the game he started was the win against Villanova in the first round.

Lunardi has this at the top of his bracketology:

"It's not easy to fly under the radar at Kentucky. Yet Mark Pope has done so in the first year at his alma mater. For the first time in forever, the Wildcats are being called overachievers. Even though they won fewer conference games than the past three seasons under John Calipari. Even though they don't have an All-SEC first team player. What they do have is hope, because a 21-10 (10-8 SEC) record is good enough for a 3-seed out of the loaded SEC. And that kind of tournament placement, backed up by a whopping 10 Quad 1 wins, suggests Big Blue Nation should see the NCAA second weekend for the first time since before the pandemic. It hasn't happened yet, but the ghosts of St. Peter's, Oakland and other recent demons should be buried soon."

So its official - first round loss

That's like when a 90% free throw shooter steps up to the line and the announcer proclaims just before he shoots it, "He hasn't missed a free throw in four months."

Yep - and now they're even commenting on their comment before they shoot!
