Thanks for the info on those teams. I think the Randle team was one of those really wild tourneys. Seems like UCONN was a 7 seed and they caught fire as well. The thing that amazed me in that championship game is that if UK had hit half the free throws they missed they would have had the title.

4-12 from the line. Terrence Jones was 0-5.

Brandon Knight shot 6-23. And we still only lost by a point.

One of the flukier games of the Cal era. Made moreso by the fact that the two UCONN teams we lost to over the span of three years were almost like weird mirrors of each other. Just freakishly similar teams.

After going 1-2 since this bracket came out, Joe Lunardi still has Kentucky a 3. (Don't know if I agree, but it doesn't matter anyway at this stage of the game.)

Think we need to go 2-2 and win one game in the SEC Tournament to solidify a 4/5, probably? Beat Auburn and I think we'd get a 3 regardless of what happened in the other games simply because of our wins against the very top of college basketball.

Now that Jaxson Robinson is out, Kentucky is going to take a hit in the NCAA committee's minds. This is obviously not the same team that racked up 9 Quad 1's.

How far we fall probably depends on what we do in the last few games here. If the MASH unit he has left can win at least one of these and one in Nashville, you might see us get a 6 seed? 7?

I don't think they'll just pummel us or anything...but I do think our hope of being a top seed is likely gone.

^ Lunardi had us as a 4 this morning. Still think that's probably too high without Robinson.

Unless we make a little run here or something.

I doubt we are a four seed unless we get really smoking in the SEC tourney.

six or 7 sounds pretty safe

And as disappointing as it seems right now I was really thinking with the changes and all new players this may be an NIT team before game one tipped off.

Weirdly and despite everything, we woke up this morning to find that Kentucky has its highest ranking all season in the NET: 12th.

Still think that's a little bit of fool's gold...unless we win Saturday. Winning Saturday and/or winning a couple in Nashville (very tough with the way our seed is looking) would drive home the idea that we're the team we were at the best of times this year.

But still, that we've jumped a considerable amount of spots this past week even with the loss to Auburn is pretty wild.

A Missouri upset on Saturday (again, very tough) would put us in the top 10...and might still make that 3 possible. A loss plus a loss on the first day of the SEC Tournament would probably put a lot of doubts in the committee's mind, and in that case you might see a drop down to 5 or 6.

That game yesterday had pretty massive implications.

Our NET holds at 12, but we notched our 10th win against Quad 1. That makes us one of only 6 teams who have double digit Q1 wins.

More importantly, I think it shows the committee that we're a formidable team even without Robinson.

Win one in Nashville and that might get us back down to a 3. Our 5 wins against the NET top 10 is pretty dang impressive and a massive chip we'll have to play when the committee sits down next weekend.

KSR seems pretty convinced that we are already a 3 lock.

Just looking at our resume, I think really the only thing that might knock us down from getting the 3 is road record. It's not as good as some of the other teams vying for a 3, but of course the SEC has to be factored in.

Also it's still possible that they knock us for not having the team who beat Duke early on. This would especially be the case if for instance we got through the first game on Thursday in Nashville, but then came back and were really handled by Alabama. Or obviously if we dropped that first game.

Not a ton of difference really in 3 and 4, all things considered, only that you give yourself one extra possibility to see that powerful 1 be knocked out before you have to play them. I still would be very pleased if this team got to the second weekend. The team we saw yesterday was definitely a Sweet 16/Elite 8 kind of team. We have to hope that's the beginning of a March trend.

Lunardi (for whatever that matters) has UK as a 3, having moved us up after winning yesterday.

One thing you notice about Lunardi is how he'll talk about individual games having these big seed implications. I saw him yesterday and earlier last week saying basically "If Team X wins, they'll be a 2, but if Team Y wins, they'll get the 2" and so on.

Clever little marketing strategy for ESPN because it gives all those games extra importance for your average viewer. When in reality I'm not sure the committee really looks at head-to-head a whole lot, even in late-season games between similar teams. Which may be one of the reasons Lunardi is mediocre at bracketology.
