Oh don’t get me wrong—I like Z just fine. Just meant I don’t feel bad for him. He hitched his wagon to Cal twice. He knew what he was getting. Very little coaching.Comment

Yeah he's enemy now,no love at all.
To me it's mind blowing how horrible Johnel Davis is playing for Calipari, he's taken 50 steps backwards.

Johnny Cox Bypassed Hazard…..
He made the AA list, he won the title. But he was one of three huge stars in my area at the time. The other two were Kelly Coleman of Wayland High School who was KY HS basketball’s scoring leader until Travis Perry broke the mark, and Donnis Butcher who played at Pikeville College to be drafted by the New York Knickerbockers. He would go on to coach Detroit for 2-3 years.Comment

Donnis Butcher's son, Donnie, coached Cumberland College for years.

My friend always had a grudge against Donnie Butcher because Donnie refused to recruit him at Cumberland. Friend went on to Berea and had an unbelievable career, and he pretty much loathed Cumberland for that.
Donnie Butcher played a couple of seasons with Charles Barkley at Auburn, IIRC. Auburn's coach was Sonny Smith, who also has a connection to my hometown as the former coach of Pine Knot High School back in the day.
Kentucky has so many historical basketball connections that it's crazy.Comment

Back to the aTm game, specifically the last play of the first half. i found the moves by the coaches very interesting, Dykes commented on it ever before the play. aTm went into some kind of zone, think a 1-2-2. UK recognized this quickly and made the pass to an open Robinson.
I was surprised they could recognize the zone so fast. i suspect we had seen it on firm before. What do you think?
In any case this is a far cry from Cal's end of half plays.Comment

It worked out for the best—obviously we got 3 instead of 2– but I don’t think Garrison had any idea he was wide open to turn around and dunk. It was a well designed play but he passed so quickly he couldn’t have known how wide open he was.Back to the aTm game, specifically the last play of the first half. i found the moves by the coaches very interesting, Dykes commented on it ever before the play. aTm went into some kind of zone, think a 1-2-2. Agreed—so much smoother than 90% of Cal’s timeout calls. He’d draw one up occasionally.Comment
