Im feeling good about next year.

I cant say anyone has been down but I know there has been some degree of disappointment with recruiting as of late. I feel like we will put a fantastic team on the floor next year. I feel more excited about next year than I did this year. No logical reason for that I guess just think we will have a good year. There will be no undefeated talk, just a basketball season. I for one don't like the national championship or bust type years. I feel like that's what the past season was. In years like that it seems even winning isn't enough, you have to win by 30+ every game. Just looking forward to a laid back season and whatever happens, happens.

I tend to agree, I am worried about our depth, but not our talent. I really wish a few would've came back for another year to make us a deeper more veteran team, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Same here. Should be a interesting season and whether some believe it or not, we have the talent to compete with the best of the best.

You expressed my feelings Westtncat. I felt strained and uneasy about every game we played last season. We set an almost impossible goal for our team and I think they did too. I know last season had to be hard on Coach Cal, the players and yes the fans as well. This year will be or should be much more relaxed.

Im feeling pretty good because all this talk about Kentucky kids not being able to contribute to UK basketball will come to a head next season. Both Hawkins and Willis will have opportunities and we will see A. If Cal recruited them because he felt like they could play or B. He put them on the team as a PR stunt.

Let's don't beat around the bush, glad Cal missed in order to put these two in a position to play.........

Can't agree with you on the "glad Cal missed" part of your post. But each to his own.

At the end of the day, only 5 is going to play when it counts. The only thing we really missed on was a sf/pf and/or pf/c combo depending on how you want to play Poythrees.

Sometimes less is more. Hopefully that holds true for this upcoming season. We weren't very deep in 2012 and we won it all. Now i'm not saying we will be better but you never know. One thing I do know is that we have a better PG than in that season and while A.D. is a once in a generation talent, he wasn't as regarded as Skal coming out of high school. If Skal can play, we will be a very good team.

While I don't see us being terrible, by any stretch of the imagination, I seriously doubt we'll be anywhere near as good as last season.

We might not be as good as we were last season ever again. There's an entire universe between "terrible" and what we saw last year. Teams can win titles and not be nearly as good as last year's team.

I still think we need at least one more, maybe two, to be a legit contender. There's a multitude of unknowns, beginning with somebody like Alex Poythress. Poythress has never been consistent in his career at UK, not once, and he's going to be the anchor of the team. That's troubling.

I'm excited about next year because first and foremost I'm a Kentucky Fan and I enjoy watching Kentucky Basketball. Sure, the experience we had last year was outstanding, but so was every other season. We will be good next year, and expectations will be just as high, but maybe the disappointment will be less if we don't win #9.

If UK is not a contender this season, then who is?? Correct me if I am wrong but most all other good teams are in reload mode as well. With the seasoned teams that are returning veteran upperclassman, how many McDonald's All Americans do they have?? It's all about talent right??? How many unknowns where there be with Lsu's star class?? Will it click? Well it gel??

As for Poythrees, is Poythrees judged because he hasn't scored 30 a game like he did in high school? In Cal's system, it's usually spread across the board. Poythrees has played REALLY BIG and his inconsistencies is no different than a play like Andrew and Aaron Harrison, WCS, or any other players we have had.

I feel great about this season because we have a WARRIOR point guard that knows how to play the point...............

Poythress's inability to score on this coming team may end up being a big issue.

The points on this team as it stands are really hard to count up. For Kentucky to be a consistent offensive team some unusual things are going to have to happen that we haven't seen before in these guys' careers. Poythress, Lee, Ulis, Briscoe, and Skal are going to have to be virtual locks every night to get 12 or 13. Putting all five of your starters in double figures like that is very hard to do, particularly because none of those guys have shown they can actually score at this level.

The "what-ifs" were going to be there with this team regardless. That was a lock when seven guys went pro. But I would feel much more comfortable if we had enough guys to field a practice without having to rely on E.J. Floreal. And if players like Charles Matthews and Mulder are good enough to play, you want those guys to at least be tested in practice and to win their spots rather than having to be thrown out there because we don't have enough capable players.

The margin for error if the roster stays as-is is going to be razor thin.
