That outcome would be pretty likely if they keep him. He continues to whiff on pretty much every major recruit he targets.

Yes. I attended a Q&A session a few weeks ago with Rick Bozich & Pat Forde (about 50 people-evenly divided between UK & UL fans).

I was surprised at the strong reaction from the UL contingent; they wanted him gone immediately as in yesterday. A couple said they were cancelling their lower-level season tickets they'd held for years

Forde's and Bozich's opinion FWIW: One of the guys said he'll be back but needs to hit the portal hard. The other agreed with the UL fans; take a guess as to which of them held which opinion.

Both both said talent was an issue, that he got no help from his staff and changes need to be made. Really no mention of KP's X&O skills. Also, scheduling Bellarmine as the opener was a colossal mistake.

Just my summary of the session. Should have said: I think they keep him because firing him after one season makes it almost impossible to bring a quality replacement.

I think the note about the portal is significant. Seems pretty damning that he’s struggling to recruit the portal and the HS ranks.

My son was told by somebody who would know that UofL's players did next to nothing in the offseason. The practice gym was dormant for much of the summer.

Which checks out given how they played.

I thought Payne was a terrible hire for them to start with. Still do. Kenny comes off to me like one of those guys who needs to be in a second-tier role like an assistant or a head recruiter.

They will probably keep him, but they shouldn't. You don't need tea leaves to see that next year is going to be another disaster.

If they were serious about winning, they'd go get Beard. It's not like they could look any worse in the eyes of the public or the NCAA.

I watched them last night and I can't believe those players are that bad

I love Kenny Payne but he is just not a good coach...very bad hire
