WCN Has Lost a Good One

Friends, I want to let you know that a longtime member has passed. "Dwight Schrute" had been a member since WCN's infancy, and if I recall correctly had posted back in the days of the old Wildcatfaithful. He died unexpectedly on February 17th, leaving a wife and two young children. He was 39 years old.

Those of us who knew him are heartbroken at this news. Dwight was a proud graduate of UK and though he was originally from Elizabethtown, he adored the city of Lexington--in fact had spoken many times about moving back there one day.

We want you to know that even though this board is small, we cherish each one of you. Sometimes it takes a tragedy to drive home how important places like WCN really are and how close we become when we read and post here regularly. Please hug your loved ones tonight.

The site has always been “family friendly, wildcat crazy”. Dwight Schrute, his username, was a long-standing member who embodied both. He was a true friend to so many of us and loved the University of Kentucky Wildcats. This has been heartbreaking news.

We had noticed that he had not been on the site since February 17th, and then started looking over the internet for any news. Unfortunately we found out that he had passed away unexpectedly on 02-17-2023.

We’ve all enjoyed conversation and even deliberation about Kentucky Basketball and Football with Dwight Schrute. He had been here nearly constantly throughout the existence of this site. He will be dearly missed. Today we learned of the loss of a true friend and it has been incredibly saddening.

Dwight was one of the best. I wrote “our” best at first, but thought better of it because the folks who have kept coming around after all these years bring so much unique goodness that it’d be next to impossible to rank this group.

Dwight was up there, though, and I’m truly going to miss him. I participated in or witnessed so many great conversations with that guy.

It’s hard to put it into words, because his passing seems so unreal. Almost not a day went by that he didn’t contribute to discussions. Just doesn’t seem possible that he would be gone. Goodbye Dwight, we will miss you. Heartfelt condolences to his family.
