Seeing as how he is a Michigan golden boy, he most certainly will not be fired.
I'm not sure he should be fired, anyway. You're right that there is no place for that sort of behavior, especially from a coach, but it looks an awful lot like the Wisconsin coach said something to provoke it.

It's his second time being involved in this type of thing I believe. The Wisconsin coach did grab him to say something but the punch was over the top.
I’m with Sean. If you watch their respective press conferences it was apparently over a timeout taken late in the game by Wisconsin—nothing their coach said to Howard. Apparently the coach was grabbing at Howard’s shirt to explain why he took the TO but Juwan was too miffed at that point to listen to it. All fine up to the point where a punch was thrown which to me is beyond acceptable when coaching kids you are supposed to be teaching discipline to. Especially if it’s happened before—which I was not aware of.
Upon further review I do now see that it was an “open hand†blow. Not quite as bad as a punch. Still, poor reaction and warrants punishment whether he’s fired or not.
What is your opinion on the handshake line after the game? Do away with it or not?
I've always thought the handshake line was silly. That's like forcing someone to apologize. What good is a forced insincere apology or handshake? I'm an old fellow and I realize that causes me to view things in a different light than a lot of you all. When I was participating, in sports, we never shook hands, no one did. As I recall, back in the day, the NFL had a no fraternizing rule. Players weren't allowed to talk, to the opposition, on the field before or after games. It didn't matter if the player you knew was a college roommate or your brother.
In the NBA they'll all hug each other after games like they're all related. That's sort of odd...but then again I like the fact that it's sort of a fraternity.
The games seemed to be more entertaining back in the day (particularly the '80s) when you had players saying they openly hated each other. But I'm not sure a handshake line or mass hugging after games would really do much to that.
In high school and college you see things happen sometimes in handshake lines. You see it quite a bit at the high school level actually. But of the hundreds of games that are played if you get one or two bad situations resulting from it, do you change it? I think it's just one of those rituals that comes with sports like the National Anthem and teams dribbling the ball out in lopsided games and substitutions of walk-ons. Usually you don't even acknowledge it as a player and definitely not as a fan.
The problem though is that postgame declarations of "good game" (either from a handshake or a gesture) have become so ingrained that if coaches and players don't do it, that's a sign of disrespect. And disrespect is at the lowest rung of garbage behavior in sports.

Wisconsin assistant also made first contact by grabbing Howard's arm and being the aggressor at the beginning. Howard didn't throw the punch until after they were separated. Something was said to further escalate it from the initial grab by the Wisconsin coach.
Both coaches should definitely face suspensions and fines.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Idk if you saw the closer angle footage, but you see Howard was trying to just walk by him when Wisconsin coach grabbed him and then you hear Juwan say "don't touch me", but that still does not excuse the slap he threw; he deserved the suspension but I also believe Wisconsin coach should get a few games, you just don't grab a person...well, that couldn't have been me being touched! Lol
