the Alabama job is a head scratcher. I thought the last guy they had was a shoo-in for a great run. I still think he's a fine coach.
Barnes is apparently a solid deal at UT. That is gonna be a good hire. in the tourney every year, from all reports a guy that gets along well with most, a good recruiter, oddly enough from everything that has been written about his recruiting he has zero run ins with the NCAA, and a pretty strong academic record. Sounds like a guy that can get UT back into some serious conversations. Drat.
As for Bama.....they certainly are talking spending some money. I question the love affair with Shaka or Marshall.....one analyst pointed out they were THE coaches at their current schools, and the fan bases were most passionate about basketball...including homecomings, attendance, fan chatter....you name it.
I have to wonder how each would adapt to an SEC school well established in football when these are basketball first, second and only guys. I know Donovan made it.....but then again he had an AD that was and apparently still is his most passionate supporter....and the huge money came along a bit later than right at the start.
Throw in a guy like Mississippi State hired with three final four appearances and a brutal style of basketball....
the SEC in a few years could be a rebirth of roundball. That would be good to see.
