A key Kentucky player is injured and uncertain to play vs. South Carolina

This has been one rough season for the Kentucky Wildcats, so it’s only appropriate it may end with another injury to a key player.

According to KSR’s Matt Jones, one of the Wildcats was injured during today’s practice and is now uncertain to play Saturday vs. the South Carolina Game****************s.

Cal hasn't talked to him yet.

Jones just said on the radio that the player was Davion Mintz (of course), but the good news is that the staff thinks he's good to go for tomorrow.

          Great to hear.

It's weird that on a team this bad Mintz has become one of my favorites in the Cal era.

            Me, too.

You made a point yesterday that this team wasn't that far away. If just one of our incoming guys had lived up to their billing and if we had a competent point guard, we'd be right there.

It's a poor consolation prize, but this is probably the best 8-15 basketball team I've ever seen. They suck, but it's not like they're going out and getting blown out every night. Almost every game has been competitive to the final TV timeout, which is indication that on top of having a talent deficit, they're also the unluckiest team in America.

They're unlucky but they they also don't really control games. Usually what happens is they're down, then have to come back, then they'll draw close, then fade.

There are exceptions. The Georgia loss on the BLOB play was one. But usually they just kind of scratch and scratch and keep it close only to see the game slip at the very end.

This is why I don't think one player would cut it with this team if the goal is a national title. I think Cade Cunningham would solve so many problems but he wouldn't fix us; you'd still have Olivier Sarr down there trying to learn how to ride his unicycle and stumbling all over the place.

I'm not counting on it but would love to see him come back next year. No idea what his education currently is, but why not start working on a free doctorate.

I LOVE Mintz. I hope he comes back next season. When the team is stinking up the court he sometimes looks like the only one giving effort. Imagine this team with everyone playing with that same desire.

I can't recall where I read it, or exactly what he said, but I saw a quote of his that causes me to believe he has already decided to leave.

I've thought the same. Makes sense. With Hickman coming in, Boston possibly coming back, and probably another guard or two being added through transfer, Allen probably sees the writing on the wall,

                        You mean Mintz?

The Mintz quote that (I think) Matt was referring to was something he tweeted after senior day. "Regardless of the outcome I cannot thank Big blue nation enough for the support and love I felt tonight & all season. Kentucky saved my life, helping me grow as a person & player, but most importantly letting me be the real me. For that, i'm forever thankful. Love always - 10."

Doesn't sound like a guy who has plans to return.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I thought we were in the Allen thread.

But still, I agree with you and Matt. That Mintz quote didn't sound good for a return.

The stuff Allen has said on social media also doesn't sound good for a return.
