^^^Apathy is a bad bad thing in a fable base. I suppose we’ll be renewed next fall in hopes of a better product. Mizzou may be ranked 18th but on a night with their best player in foul trouble and there was really never a reason to believe we would pull it out...and then we’re not mad about it. Says an awful lot about where we stand.

I actually just blew off the game tonight. Buddy of mine texted a couple hours before and said “I guess I’ll watch this†and I knew what he meant.
I coulda turned on the second half after making dinner and bedtime but I just didn’t have it in me to watch. It sucks because basketball was supposed to be the one thing that would bring us a little bit of joy during this Covid season, and it ain’t.
I’m sure these kids are hating life right now. Im sure when the pro exodus happens in March it’ll be met with a yawn, but this is bad. Just seems like apathy all around.Comment

All recruiting classes aren't built the same.
It's very rare to be able to assemble a team completely in the summer and have them gel by the first of the season. They have to be very good--and this team is not.
Way too young.
Low talent.
No point guard.
No offensive playmakers. Literally nary a bucket-getter.
No shooters.
Physically soft (see "Way Too Young").
Coaching in a way that's trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I.e. relentlessly trying to put the ball in to Sarr and Jackson off the block when neither of them have scored more than a handful of baskets from that slot all year.
COVID delayed much-needed time both in the weight room and together as a team for them. They don't seem to be very together, which is imperative for any good basketball team.
I could go on. With a situation like this you can't just pin it on one thing. It's a culmination of unfortunate brutality.Comment

Cal has to stop assembling teams in the summer. I know the transfer environment necessitates that you're going to see some movement in the summers, but those need to be extra pieces and not scrambling to just have enough to, like, have enough players in case one guy gets in foul trouble.Comment

It's all because he has had guys leave for the NBA that shouldn't have, unexpected transfers (Juzang was a shock to them) and recruits (Wiseman, Cunningham, etc...) who they thought were locked up that went elsewhere. It's been a perfect storm for Cal the last few years and he hasn't been able to control it. He needs to do something differently (duh) and do it quickly or next year we will be in the same exact scenario.Comment

Only way it happens is with some hard discussions with people.
If you go back to when the Cal era began, usually players were only one-and-done caliber if they knew they could land in the first round. It was preferable to be in the lottery.
Now it goes every which way. Players are looking to jump if they're just rumored to be a second-round possibility, and we've had guys leave who are not even there.
He has to reverse that somehow but it's hard. A guy like Jackson for instance--he will get drafted. But look at how many guys like Jackson come back all across the country. They're almost never coming back to Kentucky.
Cal has to change the whole mentality of what "succeed and proceed" means.👍 1Comment

^ But he won't change I believe. Changing now would mean fringe lottery guys will go elsewhere. Like we don't have these guys already. I have long checked out of his system. Is it football season yet? Cal has forced fans to flip their script.Isaiah 5:20Comment
