I disbelieve most rumors about UK basketball BUT if there's any truth to this, it does immediately make you wonder if what they're concerned about is not COVID, but rather their plummeting/nonexistent NBA stock.

Which cuts back to a major problem in this program, which is obviously the fact that the priority now is more about guys getting drafted high and getting out of Lexington quick. Everything else seems to be secondary.

I am a long time UK fan and still am. But I can honestly say it would not bother me if UK shut down the rest of the season. From the lack of posts during the game threads this season, I may not be the only one that feels this way.☹️

My guess is that this is all a nothingburger and if the season were shut down over Covid, it wouldn't be a big deal.

This would be different. And I think if that were the case, it might be the end of the Calipari experiment at UK.

Well for me it does immediately harken back to the Jarred Vanderbilt thing.

There is definitely this thing with some of these players that playing too much college basketball can hurt them. Sometimes playing just a little is good, but there's a threshold that they can cross that shows too many weaknesses.

Not saying that's what's going on here. I really don't think so mainly because Cal would be crushed for shutting down. But just on an individual player basis there are definitely guys we have on this roster who might need to stop playing to have a shot. They're in freefall.

As he should if he were shutting it down for that. If they're just looking at the Covid spread in the program and realizing that resuming the last week of February is a losing proposition then whatever.

But if a bunch of players are opting out to protect their pro careers and Cal is shutting it down...shoo boy.

Cal has nobody but himself to blame here, this is the culture HE created. He sells the NBA, that’s why these kids come here, if that is threatened what reason do they have to play for him. This is his creation and it has become untenable, don’t see anyway Cal can reverse this at this point,

As I was leaving Bob Evans yesterday, a man saw my UK cap and immediately said he was done with Cal. This has happened several times.

I agree with every word you say here EXCEPT that Cal cannot reverse it. I’ve said it before but the only question is whether he has any interest in changing. He has coached more than one program in a more traditional way before and can certainly do so again IF he wants to. There is plenty to sell in UK basketball. And the best of the best that he signs in the future would still be justified in leaving after one year. Cal can sit in a kid’s living room and tell them very honestly what he thinks they’re capable of and how much he wants them in his program. If the kid then outperforms expectations and moves up the draft boards then bid him fair well.

I doubt Cal wants to go back to that at this point in his career. But he could.

Oh yes. That sentiment is rampant. In fact I’m finding it quite rare to find anyone who defends him very vociferously at this point. It’s just one really bad season but this result has been building for several years. And Cal is likely too stubborn to have any interest in doing things differently.

I've sort of wondered what Cal's approval rating would be if someone could get an accurate reading.

Going into this year it would have probably been about 85% approve? Maybe higher? You're always going to have about 5% who just hate everything and another 10% who hated the one-and-done thing from the start.

Now it would be probably 20-25%? Maybe lower?

Drew Franklin @DrewFranklinKSR: Asked if he'll have his whole roster tomorrow night Calipari said, "If not it won't be because of COVID."
                            Well that doesn't sound promising.

^ Could be referring to Terrence Clarke. At least that was my first thought when I read it.

But with this team, who knows.

No way...20-25% is silly and way too low. 20-25% approval for this season maybe, but not overall.

You really think there are 75-80% of UK fans who would be ok with Cal being gone? No chance.
