Is UK Shutting It Down for the Season?

Tony Basilio said a few minutes ago that he was told Kentucky may be opting out of the remainder of the season. Haven't found any other sources to confirm that, but it makes you wonder, given that there's been no word at all on the Mizzou game.

Maybe we'll have a chance to go undefeated the rest of the way.

Unless they have players on the team who have experienced really bad symptoms or something like that, they shouldn't go this route. They'd be torn apart for it--rightfully so.

Maybe Basilio is confused and saw that thing about Skyy Clark opting out of his season?

Last I saw someone on Twitter said that it's possible the Kentucky/Missouri game may be pushed until later in the week.

It would definitely look bad for UK. I doubt they would do this unless there is a fantastic reason, and with that said it wouldn't surprise me at this point if they did "shut it down".

A nice convenient "out" for Cal IMO if this story turns out to be true. There are teams out there who was off for weeks and it didn't stop them from playing eventually.

Well, just based on the timing,if they were out for 4 weeks, they'd be returning at the beginning of March to a conference to a conference tournament that may or may not happen.

I would imagine if this DID happen at this point, it's because the outbreak is pretty uncontrolled within the program.

True Dwight. It was lost on me when I posted that that it was February 1st. Still, I can see Cal trying to save some kind of face given his ridiculously bad coaching this year. While I can't stand quitters, a part of me wants someone to go ahead and pull the plug. I don't know how much more of Cal I can tolerate.

Cal doesn't strike me as somebody who would just quit the season. Doesn't seem to be like him. I mean he'll dodge criticism sometimes and I've seen him throw players under the bus a couple of times, but 90% of the time he meets criticism face on.

I'm still doubting the source of this because it just doesn't seem right. (Unless, again, there are serious health issues with somebody in the program or something.) We still have nine games left to play. That's a decent chunk of the season still left.

^ And just as I say that, Matt Jones hints that there's some "chatter" about the status of UK's season.

If it turns out that UK is opting out, that will be absolutely brutal for Cal.

This would be a terrible decision if true, but if Tony Basillio is the root of the rumor, I'll reserve judgment.

Oh no. This would be absolutely brutal.

I mean, I wouldn't really mind. Everything about this season has been a nightmare, but still.. the optics on this are dismal.

Looks like Tennessee is playing Gonzaga Saturday, which means our game against them is off.

That suggests we are at least a week away from playing.

Hold on this. The twitter account that posted it says that it may be made up.

Now Jones says that it's possible Kentucky plays the Missouri game Wednesday afternoon.

Canceling now would be no less brutal for Cal than finishing 7-20 and missing the tournament and NIT.

I'll just sit and wait until something is official.
