That quote and draft helped recruiting for a few years, but it has also caused the demise of Cal's "system"

Without Anthony Davis Cal just has a few final hours and a lot of draft picks. This is not trending positively.

But it’s interesting that if you think about that quote, it does really cut directly to the problems in the program a decade after he said it, the main one being the NBA became the point and purpose of Kentucky basketball.
And there was a bit of push back from fans hereon and other boards for that comment, too, IIRC.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Obviously, since there are 120 some D1 schools, what you say is true, but UK has more former players in the NBA than any other school.

Go on a trip and come back to all this. I thought this stuff was getting behind us. Sheesh. I am not even watching the game. Straight delete.

I don't think the 1 and done players are the problem.... in fact God bless them, go make more money than I can even fathom!
The problem as I see it is because of 2 other type players.

#1 - The quitters! Juzang, Greene, Baker, Killeya Jones, Mathews, Wiltjer etc.., etc.
I know people on this board always wish them luck, but I for one would rather never here their names again, I don't wish them good luck and I don't wish them bad luck. If they don't want to be here...just go away. They've wasted enough time and energy of the coaching staff not to mention resources of the University.

#2 - The Boneheads! Johnson, Montgomery, Whitney, Haggans, Briscoe, Humphreys etc., etc.. Even though it has worked out for a couple of these guys, and I'm glad of that, just think if they each would have stayed another year. Put Haggen and EJ on this team and we wouldn't be missing the tournament this year!

If we could just cut these early departures in half I think it would make all the difference in the world.
Would we miss out on some recruits? Probably, but we can't have it both ways.

^ Don’t think I’d put Keldon Johnson in that group. He’s averaging about 15 a game right now.

There have been transfers that I just flat out could not blame. Guys who I don’t think we’re given a fair shake because others were being given all the minutes due to more stars as high school recruits. But I’m with you...some of these guys, including some you have mentioned, were getting ample opportunity and could have developed into stars. I don’t know what drove a Juzang away if there were something that attracted him here in the first place. But—I’ve never lived in Cal’s environment. Seems it’s no longer just “not for everyone.” Maybe it’s “not for hardly anyone.”

Maybe he is referring to Dakari Johnson

^ There are fans that mention they can’t remember all of the players do to the revolving door that is UK’s roster.

Didn’t think I’d see it happen to Will.

Hell, I rattled off a list of current players yesterday and forgot about Keion.

Maybe you were assuming the mysterious injury would linger all season long....

Yes I meant Dakari. He is one that not only would he have benefited tremendously, but the team would have also.

Catsrock I agree, I can't blame some of them.
That's what Call needs to address.
Like I said if we could keep half of these 2 groups around we'd still be young but much more experienced.
