Cam Fletcher "Stepping Away from the Team" (UPDATE: Fletcher's Back)

In a very rare move (may unprecedented), Calipari posted on Twitter that he has asked Fletcher to step away from the team and "do some soul-searching."

Wow. I figured we'd have a casualty or two by seasons end. Didn't think it would happen quite this quickly.

    Everything about this situation stinks.

Cal has never, to my recollection, come out and put this out in the air like this.

I can't think of any other similar situation. The Hagans business from last season is the closest, I guess.

Which begs the question: why have we had these issues in consecutive seasons all of a sudden?

Either way, I'd bet a large sum of money that we've seen the last of Fletcher.

It's only fair to just come out and say it: this season is a dumpster fire.

It is 2020, so I guess it makes sense.

            @KySportsRadio
As @DrewFranklinKSR said on KSR this morning, something happened in that locker room after the UNC game Calipari looked beaten down in press conference, Brooks came out to do player presser and he didn’t play and the next day Fletcher flies home It couldn’t have been good
I've been anti-fire Cal but I've seen enough.

Frankly, I can't imagine anything more destructive to a team than having a player so selfish that he walks out on his teammates with 4 minutes remaining. Adios Mr Fletcher.....

I think you have Fletcher confused with Clarke and, it's my understanding, that even Clarke didn't walk out on the team. I believe that report turned out to be false. Fletcher was crying, on the bench, because he felt he didn't get enough pt in the game.

This is very out of character for Cal. He may be feeling the pressure. Fletcher did apologize, after all.

Correction: this is the third consecutive season in which a player has walked away from the team during the season. I forgot about Quade.

Yeah, Fletcher apologized, but he followed that up with a very public outburst in the airport on his way out of town. He was on the phone with someone and was (allegedly) trashing Cal pretty badly.

I take those reports with a grain of salt, but it's not a good look.

This sucks, this team seems like it's on the verge of falling apart and will lose any progress it has made. I am absolutely dreading this game Saturday. I predict Louisville is gonna boatrace us and Mack is gonna get his comeuppance from whatever dumb spat he and Cal had this summer.

Another reliable source I follow says there have been other issues going on with/because of Fletcher. Not that it's hard to believe, but what we're seeing is the culmination of a number of issues.

I heard that Fletcher was a "challenge" before he even got to Kentucky, so this only back that up.

Same here. The word “a-hole” was also used numerous times. That was on a pretty well-known podcast, too, so I’m not just peddling crap from Twitter.
