Can someone translate this statement from Cal

You see, the reason Calipari waited so long to put Allen in the game is because there are players ahead of him in the rotation who, and I quote, “need to be able to miss shots.”

“I could’ve done it today, but I’m giving these guys that are in front of him the room that they need to be able to miss shots,” Calipari said of Allen following Kentucky’s fifth consecutive loss of the season. “We go in practice and they make shots, but they aren’t making them in the game. It’s not, “I come out every time I miss a shot,” obviously you guys know that’s not true. You try to give them room and encourage them to shoot.”

This is the stupidest quote I've ever heard from Cal.

It's nonsense like this that makes me want to side (apprehensively) with the "sky is falling" dudes that act like he's persona non grata.

I agree, and doesn't he realize players families read this stuff? Not a smart move.

Cal is saying he has to let guys play to learn rather than being afraid they're coming out with every miss or mistake. There's some truth in that. Of course he didn't give Nick Richards that benefit of the doubt. If had taken that approach with Nick it wouldn't have taken 3 years for him to show some ability.

To me the problem here is how Cal determines who gets this approach and who does not. It's unfortunately determined by high school evaluations. The only (or main) reason any of the current players are ahead of Allen in this rotation is because Rivals and Scout says they are. That and the fact Allen's strength is in scoring the ball and not in defense--which is obviously Calls favorite. Baker, Mulder and Juzang also had this fatal flaw in Calls eyes.

Of course this year Cal may want to tell guys he can't play them or hide them but when he looks to the bench he just realizes he didn't sign or keep any better options.

Cal often speaks in broken English too. Doesn't always make his points that clear.

This makes no sense. Shooters who can make shots need to be in the game if winning is the goal.
