Rick Pitino Hired at Iona

So even though the virus is dominating sports talk, some interesting stuff is still going on.

Grand Canyon University--a mostly online school that has a shockingly large basketball budget--just fired Dan Majerle, and the scuttle is that Rick Pitino might be next.

Jerry Colangelo is apparently the largest booster at Grand Canyon, and Colangelo and Pitino go way back to their time in New York.

Some believe this is absolutely going to happen. It would be very strange to see but Grand Canyon is a highly interesting job. It's basically a junior college with a high D1 budget.

That would be bizarre.

I still can't believe that a school hasn't taken a flyer on Rick Pitino yet. I get the (heavy) baggage, but there have been some desperate power 5 teams that have been looking for coaches in the past couple years.

I guess the NCAA is waiting for someone to hire Rick to throw the "show cause" on him. They'll do it whenever they can get the most publicity for it. So will be after corona runs her course.

Twitter says that Pitino may have taken the job at Iona, not Grand Canyon.

Still developing obviously and not official as far as I've seen.
