I don't know for sure, but what I do know is that drug prescriptions lean on "Number needed to treat" NNT (the number of people that need to receive the treatment for 1 person to receive a benefit) vs. Number Needed to Harm (How many people need to be exposed to the treatment to harm 1 person). An approved drug has that worked out for its designated application but will not have those numbers established for a new treatment.I've always heard that the only stupid question is the one not asked, so here goes. I can understand the testing part, to see if hydro is an effective method of treatment. The part I don't understand is it's already been approved for treatment of malaria so why does the FDA have to approve it again as a treatment for Covid-19?
The NNH and NNT of some common medications are rather dicey. For example, you are more likely to get diabetes from an anti-statin drug than prevent 1 heart attack. NNT of 60 for heart attack and 268 for stroke and for cardiovascular disease death the NNT is infinity; meaning that many people need to take the drug for 5 years to prevent 1 of the conditions. The NNH for anti-statins new-onset diabetes if 50. Meaning for every 50 people who receive the treatment 1 will develop diabetes.
I'm not a Physician, so YMMV.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that... I read that somebody who was taking the malaria thing on his own died today. Probably not wise to use politicians as physicians and best wait to see if this thing works.
This seemed to be, all in all, a better day around the world. I want to SERIOUSLY knock on wood after saying that, but there was some good news coming from certain pockets of the world today. I hope to God that we can get through another week and maybe see some real progress to what we're doing.
In other news is that my wife has bought carpet, a couch, and a massive bed in the last 24 hours. Prayers up for our bank account.Comment

I bought a router and a monitor last week in prep for my extended work from home.

If you mean, by "we", the nation then I might agree. If you are talking about Americans that are living today, then no. Not unless there are people living who are old enough to remember WWII when things, like gasoline, were rationed. As far as people chuckling about it, it certainly won't be the ones who are suffering loss of income and witnessing the illness and/or death of friends and loved ones.Philippians 4:11-4:13👍 1Comment

On a serious note....we all take a hit. Personally, my 401k is now a 200.5 k heading towards a 100.25 K. The economic impact will last far longer than the virus itself, if it follows the growth/decay path of China and South Korea.
The world will change. Maybe a little, maybe a whole lot.
We all will have to adapt. How we handle that adaptation will be the story.
Personally, I miss shaking hands and hugs from family and church. I dont miss sports as much as I'd thought.
i have found putting myself on 72 hour social distancing from any news other than Beshears announcements to be beneficial.
AND....learning what I THOUGHT were necessities were not so much.👍 1Comment

Personally I spend a lot more time in Prayer for all our Leaders as they make decisions to help everyone get through this. Also for those sick with the virus, my Family, my Friends including every WCN member and their Families. Always lot's to be on our knees about, especially now.On a serious note....we all take a hit. Prayer has always been allowed in schools. What you are talking about is forced organized prayer, which is unconstitutional.
I'm still out here working, I feel like Mad Max driving through ghost towns....Comment
